I appreciate when a movie really cuts up the score to fit scenes as needed. Listen to the Die Hard soundtrack, or Hugo, and the you recognize half the song, then the other half either wasn't used in the movie or was cut to a different scene. It's pretty cool, yet I rarely find soundtracks like that. (They're both great soundtracks too)

Why is that?

And yet they're still so great. In CaPD and Apollo, anyway. Never bothered seeing Avatar.

I'm on my way to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra to see John Williams conduct as presented by Steven Spielberg. I'm so excited. As much as I've been bored by Williams' work as of late, he was a HUGE influence on me artistically over the years, as was Spielberg.

How was it?

Star Trek 2009 is "I thought of one killer riff for this movie and by god if I'm not going to do it until we're all sick of it"

At least it's a great riff.

I have that soundtrack on my phone, it is so good. RIP Basil.

I hope the new Conan that Arnold is working on is better than Destroyer at least, but I wonder what they're doing for the soundtrack.

As someone else said, Civil War had a decent score. I actually liked the Batman v Superman one as well. Those are the two that really stood out for me so far.

Even though its not from 2016, I managed to get my hands on the Bloodsport OST and it's actually pretty good.

I'm hoping the Resurgence score is better than the original one. David Arnold isn't bad at all but the first ID4's complete score was pretty fuckin' repetitive.

Bloodsport is a classic. And it has three montages during 80's rock ballads, it's almost parody. The original music during the final fight is perfect though and I can still remember it.

Just rewatched Logan and the score really stands out as unusual and cool in a few places, while still seeming to be appropriate for the scenes.

I don't remember most of Solo but the credits song was pretty good at least! Heard it several times since I'm working at a theater now.

So it seems like a bunch of different scores have been disqualified from getting nominated for the Best Original Score Oscar for a variety of different reasons, ranging from hilarious to bullshit: https://variety.com/2018/music/awards/scores-ruled-ineligible-for-oscar-green-room-solo-1203085221/

For example, John Powell's score for Solo: A Star Wars story (the best part of the film IMO) is ineligible because they forgot to submit it in time.

But the worst one is Johann Johannsson's score for Mandy, which is ineligible because the entire film is in fact ineligible as it went to VOD 'too soon' to count as having a proper theatrical release. It's kind of bullshit that Johann Johannsson's last score - which is amazing - gets a massive snub because the Academy is mad that something went to digital while it was still in theatres.

They wouldve snubbed it from winning anyway because its a weird cult film, not the usual academy style
