It's not $1000, but Costco at least has them at $1499 with the free five year warranty. I got them to price match the one I bought a bit ago for $1599 (and it hasn't even been delivered yet lol)

I haven't bought a TV in...a very long time. I think I paid $800 for a 42" LED screen, and it was a great deal at the time. What are the key details/features these days? I see OLED, Mini-LED, QLED, etc etc. I've read a few things about it, but I'd like some value judgment on the topic. I'm not an avid screen enthusiast with a home theater room; this is going up in the family room. Plenty of Bluey, occasionally a video game. The two most important considerations I would have is that it would need to do well in a room with a lot of ambient light, and function well as a display that spends 99% of its time running off a PC. (I run our TV today as a monitor for a PC and access all the streaming services from a web browser, as well as all the media I have saved.)

Those speakers are similarly priced to the furniture in the room, a genuine Eames lounge chair is $6-10k. If your living room is big enough to comfortably fit La Scalas, which are the size of a refrigerator, it shouldn't be an issue. Like everything in audio it's possible to spend between 20 and infinity dollars on any piece of it. Slim towers can be an easy way to go, look decent if you leave the grilles on and a lot of them aren't super expensive. Check out Polk or Jamo on the lower end.

After 2 weeks of using an LG C3, I think the good gray uniformity is my favorite aspect of it, even more than the OLED black levels. I did think the cheapo TCL and Hisense TVs I had before this looked decent but god drat they looked awful around the edges, especially when solid colors were on screen. I actually don’t mind webos either for streaming and I think I’ll use its apps for now over a dedicated streaming box. I’m surprised they let you disable ads on the homescreen.

I have it on game optimizer with boost mode but everything else off, sharpness to zero, etc. I also changed the color temp to warm 50 since that’s most accurate apparently.

Dumb question time! Regarding optimal viewing distance from TVs. Obviously is you're too far away, you lose the benefit of 4k over 1080p. But if you get too close to take advantage of everything 4k can do - 1080p might start to look pixelated. I assume you'd be upscaling the 1080p perhaps, but I'm wondering. Is there any magic middle ground for viewing distance? Close enough for 4k to shine, without 1080p looking bad? Or is the answer "it upscales, and you don't worry about it?"

RTings does have a section in reviews for how well specific models upscale lower resolution content, although I think it’s most important for 720p and below upscaling. My C3 does a great job with 480p, I was shocked how good GameCube games looked via a hacked Wii U over HDMI.

Picked up BBC Earth's The Green Planet UHD Blu-ray. Episode 1: Drones making camera work from the jungle canopy to the forest floor look easy. Lot of time-lapse photography on vines, ant colonies, etc. Insert Star Wars meme about never thinking there was this much green in the entire galaxy here.  I can actually pick out color definition between the sky and clouds through the leaves on my TV as the camera is looking up.

I made the mistake of buying a TV with built-in FireTV because it was cheap. It's slow as poo poo and infuriating, especially compared to my other FireTV Cube. Would there be any issue hooking up a FireTV stick? I ask because all of the TV functions are built into the on-board FireTV.

Should be fine. It uses an hdmi input, and Casting froma phone/tablet lets you select the target device, so you can specify the stick and not the television. You can also make it simpler by disconnecting the TV from the network, too.

I bought one cheap Roku TV and one cheap Fire TV for both kids a while back. This is where Rokus interface shows up. It's not as fast as a standalone Roku of course but def fine. The cheap Fire TV on the other hand just can't even loving manage it's own OS. Just absolute dog poo poo. I mean... I get that it's a cheap TV but it's nigh on usuable
