Playing a lot of Victoria 2 AHD. Played as Brazil to get a good handle on the UI, then the US for maximum :911:. Ran into a slight problem though, The UK has sphered Mexico, and any allies I sign with will refuse to join me. Ive started playing influence games, but the limey fucks ban my embassy everytime they get enough influence to. Are there any technologies to give my influence a boost, or am I going to have to wait till a great war breaks out so I can get all those cores without 158 divisions swamping me?

Sweet. I know research isn't really a priority for CK2 compared to backstabbing and petty wars, but I do have an irrational love for it.

I miss the CK1 research screen that would tell you what advance the research level represented.

You know if they just stuck to power politics and a military system abstact enough to simulate proxy wars, EvW would rule. Paradox games are at their best when history roes off the rails, and nothing can cause that to happen as awesomely as nuclear warfare. But this combined with all the grognardy poo poo has this from a possible byy to me ignoring it entirely.

Yes, that is the key to late-game V2 wars between industrial powers. Work out how many dudes can fit on your front, pile as much firepower as you can into that and leave the rest in reserve to sub in as needed. The battles will drag on for months at a time but as long as you keep them running somewhere with a favourable kill ratio you'll slowly grind them down and eventually get a breakthrough.

After machine-guns, every war is WWI. Plan accordingly and you can pull it off.

I think the AI cheats with its generals because every single war I fight after a decade will have some uber general with a + 4 on attack that renders them able to beat my larger army thats dug into mountains across a river with better military technology and a +2 defense general. I get that they can just produce generals whenever they get enough points but I would be nice if I can go up against someone who isnt the tactical lovechild between Hannibal and Alexander the Great every once in a while.

Depends on the size of the nation

When building factories, I just let the AI get a project going, then fund it to completion.

In large nations I just let the AI do its thing and keep subsidies off on everything but military supplies so I dont wind up with no artillery when the largest supplier gets a bug up its rear end.

In small ones I'll micromanage, as they lack the population to really go hog wild in my experience.

The AI is a bit of a crapshoot, but sometimes it makes really good choices. My most recent game as persia had them build a cloths factory just before I got sphere'd by Russia, which apparently had an insatiable demand for them. Sure I had to close my fabric factory, but that was the quickest I've ever seen a factory fill up to capacity in a nation of under 3 million.

Well my most recent USA game in HOD is going weird. The Civil war occurred on schedule, the CSA was wrecked and absorbed. Yet, i noticed that my soldier cap went up by four.

Turns out this one county in Oklahoma had 75% soldiers for its population, which I would have only to the brutal annihilation of a lot of Cherokee.

Afterthat, things are calm, except for an anarcho-liberal uprising. Which consists entirely of african americans. Seriously, they had a african soldier model and everything :psyduck:. I'm not even sure how that happened

Tie slavery to party ideology. To use American parties as an example, have the republicans have the "Anti-Slavery" stance. If they win in a certain number of elections AND have an upperhouse majority slavery gets repealed.

I think the siege events would be fine if they were a lot rarer but instead actually noticeably affected the siege. As they are now they're terrible though, yeah.

The "Siege Leader" trait has some excellent potential for this I think. Add in unique events that will really speed up/slow down a siege if one of the commanders on either side has it. I'd be historical too, as Harold Hardruler made his fortune busting up castles in creative ways if I remember correctly.

This, and EU5 too possibly, if starting armies already have their generals assigned decently. Not like historically accuretally but simple 'good generals start off already assigned to large units' kind of way. One thing that made playing MotE hard for me was assigning the dozen or so generals you have to assign at the start as France.

Thats the good part about it, victoria 2 already has the auto assign generals function, so that issue is already solved! I already accumulate a ton of leadership points, and by extension generals I never use anyway, so they can finally be use for something other than cluttering up the military screen.

Also the descriptions in march of the eagles make battles cooler, especially if they can put in blurbs about your generals traits affecting combat somehow. General Smith (Alchoholic, School of the Bayonet) got shitfaced and ordered a disastrous charge against a machine-gun nest!

Go in to the population screen for the whole country, then have it sort by militancy. Mouse over the militancy for a pop and it should give you a breakdown about whats affecting their militancy.
