Wow they really hosed this voices thing up. JUST PUT IN SOME loving ACCENTS! There would never be a squad where everyone is speaking different languages that is so loving stupid, and if it's just an across the board everyone speaks arabic or chinese now instead of dudeguy-americana that's as terrible as it is now, who thought this was a good idea?

It's starting to seem like vanilla x-com will just be the better game overall once the novelty of all the new toys wears off, it's a lot more cohesive and here they're just throwing poo poo at the wall and most of it isn't sticking. Yay you get robot soldiers and fedora enemies and toxic goo that makes you into mutants omg radical!!! It's like a mod made by a loving 13 year old.

Hmm, not blowing things out of proportion at all. Y'know you can... not buy the expansion right? They had the localized voice assets available, why not unlock them for every region?

Yeah, this seems like something that would integrate into the existing systems really well. Get a request for longer term help, fly to the location, and drop off 1 or 2 units and based off their class, skills, and equipment, you either pick them up some time later and get a reward, or something goes wrong and you have a limited amount of time to launch a mission to rescue them before they're captured or killed.

That sound literally like Exalt missions.

If the Gatekeeper's abilities shown in the video stays the same to the final version, it has a melee attack that immediately zombifies if it kills a soldier with it. It also has an AOE explosion that zombifies whatever it kills. Seems like it can really slide things out of control if it gets going.

I just realized...its kind of redundant to give the class with the shotgun the sword right? They're both close quarters single-target weapons? I assume, like the new Sniper class, the skill trees will distinguish themselves a little bit and they'll have different skills tailored to each type.

I think about the sword as the replacement for Run and Gun. You have to get right next to the enemy, but you can use it every turn.

The stuff you loot from bodies is useful bonus stuff like weapon mods or currency, but nothing essential, it looks like?

Mods are awesome, Beagle just had an Advanced Stock drop that gives 3 damage on a missed shot. And bodies drop Elerium Cores that seem to be required for items like advanced grenades. I saw that crafting one Incendiary Grenade required one core.

The time pressure forcing constant advancement in stages packed entirely with hyper-accurate overwatching Thin Men is what makes bomb disposal a holy terror for early campaign; Friends in Low Places and even Portent are way easier because they're heavily scripted and you can take as much time as you want creeping along, and Site Recon is mostly a gotcha trap that provides no meaningful reward besides kill XP.

It's going to be really funny because basically 3/4 of the mission types revealed for XCOM 2 are going to be just as time pressured as bomb disposals.

The bomb missions are always on the worst maps too. Those drat subway, railway, and highway bridges.

VDay posted:

How is it different in that regard from spending 4-5 turns getting all your guys in good spots and then shooting first yourself?

So the way the strategy works is that it interacts with the way turns are processed and concealment mechanics.

Say you're in concealment, spot an enemy pod, and you have a squad of four. You get all four into good cover positions, pop three on overwatch, and take a shot with the fourth to ambush. The aliens do their scramble and then take their turn to shoot back at you.

Beaglewatching has you putting all four soldiers on overwatch and letting the enemy path into one of your soldiers that is in the open so they break concealment (if you're in cover and in concealment, aliens that path into you don't break concealment and don't trigger overwatch.) Result is the pod scrambles, all four soldiers take overwatch shots and then the game gives you another turn. So with this technique you basically get eight attacks worth of actions before the aliens have a chance to shoot back at you.

Right, Beagle got a Specialist that rolled Rapid Fire on level up. I think I heard somewhere that it's even possible to roll skills that aren't available to any of the classes, but don't quote me on that.
