I think I've been looking at google earth a lot and found the geography of the mideast way more varied than at first I thought? It really is way more interesting than its typically portrayed and temperate jungles are amazingly cool.

What I've learned from playing Risk is that North America is a fortress, and is very difficult to invade. The Germans would need to hold at least two of Iceland, Kamchatka and Colombia to launch a successful invasion of North America. Theoretically they could do this without Great Britain, but it would pose a significant weakness to their supply line through Greenland.

Risk is a lovely game man. Regardless of continents or territories.

Doesn't "New Spear Island" sound much more awesome than New Jersey? Also I think that Louisiana would be more properly translated as King Louis's Land. Risk sucks. I mean I know you can only do so much with a board game aimed at the ages 12 to adult, but the damned thing is so terribly simplified that it becomes a chore simply to explain the many faults. It's still kinda fun, but there's waaaay better games of both strategy and tactics to play.

The key is small, so:
Black dot: Target in a 2000 warhead scenario
Purple triangle: Target in a 600 warhead scenario
Red asterisk: State capital
Red square: City

As someone who's not American, can someone clarify what the 2000-warhead targets in North Dakota, Montana and around Cheyenne are? US missile silos? And then I suppose the other black dots are generally just major cities, military placements and the like?

Why are so many getting dropped on Tampa in a more limited scenario? Wouldn't the extras be better served trying to pop the silos, assuming a successful first strike? Or is it more like in a 600 they knew that they wouldnt be able to prevent a retaliation so the aim is to cause us much damage to important population/economic/infrastructure hubs that we would only have the one shot at retaliation?

I thought the limited scenario was the Russians launching a retaliatory strike with what they have left, in which case targeting silos wouldn't make that much sense, since the contents are already in Russia.

Ahh, that makes a ton of sense. In which case yeah, may as well target major population centers and economic infrastructure.

Mustang posted:
