Ral Ω Grad has to be the stupidest comic (with great art) that I've ever read. I can't believe I didn't think to look to see who the writer was. I've been waiting forever for the Death Note and Bakuman team to do something else, and I just assumed this was it. Apparently it's a ten-year old tie-in to the Blue Dragon RPG. I have no idea why Viz decided to pull this out of their back catalog in 2013 when great titles like Slam Dunk and Jojo's are still physical-only.

Well don't leave us hanging, who won the duel?

I really like Sinbad as a character mostly because he makes a very interesting villain. I really hope that they don't play up the "David was influencing him" angle and that him being a manipulative douche-bag is just his real personality (which seems to be the case judging from the Adventures of Sinbad offshoot manga). He's just a really bizarre character who seems to have an almost religious fervor regarding his belief that Fate is on his side and that he is destined to change the world, and he seems incapable of having any real, genuine relationships with other people. Even in the offshoot that details how he met all his followers, it's obviously that they aren't all friends and equals; everyone else is just carried along by the momentum of Sinbad's personality.

Alibaba is a really good contrast to Sinbad (and all the other King vessels for that matter) because he is much more human. I really look forward to the (hopefully) inevitable time when Alibaba, Alladin, and the others throw a wrench in Sinbad's plans, because up until this point it's obvious that Sinbad has always felt 100% confident that things would work out because he is "loved by Fate." I'll be really disappointed if they just attribute Sinbad's hosed up actions to a combination of the David thing and him being influenced by Arba. It would be more interesting if "literally mind-control people into not doing evil" was his ultimate plan all along.

Does that include the chapter released today? It's really explicit about all of what you've said and if you haven't gotten to it yet it's definitely validating your thoughts.

It's not very substantial, but it was a fun read.

they do a good job and release chapters regularly. terrible translations and dropped projects are common enough that i don't see the need to complain.

There wasn't any complaining; the guy just wished they came out faster.

Surely it's not hard to empathize with that position? "Hey this thing I like is good and I wish I got more of it".

Is Jagaaaaaan one of the SJ newcomers? It seems like it could be alright. Felt more Seinen-y though, but so does Promised Neverland and I've been enjoying that a bunch.

It was cancelled, so yeah its ending sucked.

The artstyle makes it super readable; I quite like it.

I'm not really sold on the series yet though, just because of the lack of any conflict. It's hard to know which way they're going with it.

The ranking thing is in fact, a eugenics plan. The ranking stuff is presented as a form of weird communism/socialism where if you have a low ranking you're not going to have an overly luxurious lifestyle but you're still provided for because the government's use of the system lets them ensure 100% employment and a safety net.

What it really was meant to do is isolate "high ranking" people and "low ranking" people to their peer groups- so the high rankers can produce kids with better genetics. I hate that this is right. I suspect Norman is being groomed to be the big bad of the series. It's been beaten into the reader by now that some humans are special and are not to be eaten, and while we've only seen the women used as breeders and caretakers, we don't actually know what happens to the exceptionally high scorers. It would not be surprising to me if this came down to some high level eugenics program where the very best are groomed to be leaders. It's been flagged to some extent that there's something more special about them that they shouldn't be damaged in any way; if they were just eating their brains that would not need to be the case.
