Outside of this kickstarter, is there any way to get a good bunch of miniatures for a reasonable price? I'd kinda like to paint some minis and maybe use them for D&D prior to 2019.

Anything from Bones 1-3 that's been released at retail. The point of the kickstarter is to get the molds made so that they can sell them as regular products. They're cheaper through the kickstarter, but buying them individually now lets you pick and choose what you get and it's still significantly cheaper than hard plastic or metal miniatures. They'll often even have both choices available on the webstore for models that have already had a Bones version produced.

Will they sell the items from last years core set alacarte? There are a few things from it I want, but I'd rather not trawl eBay or drop $190.

Eventually they will be released as individual models like everything else they sell. That's the whole point of these Kickstarters. They don't start selling them ala carte right away because they need to dedicate the molds to producing Kickstarter fulfillments. Once those are done, they then make a few of the new Bones available per week, I assume to drive hype or control the volume of new orders.

As in they're not putting anything from Bones 1, 2, or 3 into Bones 4 as add ons. You can still get the stuff from regular retail, and they're still doing the "break the core set into smaller parts for extra add ons" later in the project, probably the final week.

I assumed he meant from retail, not in the current Bones project but I could be wrong.

I don't actually want the guy to be fired because I don't want to set a precedent where people are fired for saying unpopular poo poo on the internet regardless of how insensitive of ill-timed. The guy is a massive dickbag who deserves ill will, but I also don't like the idea that a corporation will fire you because of what you did on the internet (if it isn't actually illegal).

I want him to be reprimanded. I want the company to come out as pro Antifa. I want the company to make this guy be in charge of all of Reaper's charitable efforts from now on (so he has to do it, but Reaper gets the credit, working alongside Jewish charities or BLM so maybe he'll learn something and it will be more in his face than "sensitivity training"). I want Reaper to openly donate money to relief efforts for the victims of the Nazi attack. And I want Reaper to make a relevant charity sculpt. But if he's good at his job let him keep it. Just make sure he separates his public and private personas in the future.

And I know that that's not going to be a popular opinion, but I think it's better than having employment be at the whim of corporate masters (Right to Work blooows). I will say that this dude is different than the Google guy because the memo writer's lovely behavior was directly related to Google and Google's corporate culture and belittling the women who worked for Google. The Reaper dude is just a Nazi sympathizing troll, and while that sucks, it doesn't really have to do with Reaper other than guilt by association.

Nah. Dude who apparently runs a chunk of Reaper's social media presence should know better than to post abhorrent poo poo where the public can see it. If he doesn't understand how to control his own content, then he's clearly not competent for that role.

I mean if he was actually in charge of their social media than yeah you've got a good point. I looked as far as "operations manager" but didn't go into what that meant. But working there 13 years definitely predates social media so it's not like he couldn't be moved to a less public role. Again, not because I want to protect a Nazi sympathizer, but because I don't like the idea of corporations hiring and firing based on public pressure.

NTRabbit posted:

He was definitely reprimanded

It's not just about reprimanding the dude, it's about forcing Reaper the corporate entity to publicly distance itself from alt-right garbage in a way that makes sure they never let it happen again.

It's complex and I'm honestly still trying to sort my feelings and opinion on the matter. You make some excellent points about their product being goodwill and the company running a public campaign and anything done in the public sphere affects that and hurts the company, so maybe in this case yeah, you're right this guy should get the ax. But what I'm really worried about is in four or five years when a guy posts some socialist meme and a bunch of vocal alt-right trolls cry foul and demand his head.

I don't think there has been any resolution at this point, unless Reaper just leaves it where it is as resolved.

My guess is that they decided not to do anything other force him to apologize and separate his social media accounts from Reaper so that he can continue to be a dickhead in his private life without associating his opinions with Reaper. They're almost certainly not going to do anything like donate to a relief fund for victims of the Nazi attack or put this guy in charge of community outreach programs.

In other words, it's been swept under the rug.

They certainly aren't engaging with people on social media about it beyond the initial apology.

I will probably buy Reaper miniatures in the future since they're the largest company that does what they do with consistent quality in the product, but I will treat them like I do any other corporate entity and buy at retail. I won't be participating in their community projects because the public face they showed wasn't one I want to engage with.

I prefer my game companies to be absentminded and harmlessly incompetent, not doing their best to sweep a Nazi sympathizer under the rug.

You can find Nazi shitbird anywhere if you flip over enough rocks, and that bothers me more than any one example.

It's like when racist poo poo from the 30s comes up and people say that it's a product of its time. Except now "its time" is now, and it's just as poo poo as it was then.

This is ultimately why I'm not going to write them off as a company. They make a product, I like the product, and if I refused to do business with any company that had questionable politics I'd be living off the grid eating would I could kill with my own two hands. But that doesn't mean I have to play their social media games.

In better news my Bones 3 stuff arrived at long last! Not had chance to check in depth but all the bags and boxes seem to be present.

Quantum packaging has struck as Ma'aldrakar won't go back in her box after I couldn't resist opening it to test fit the parts.

Also Goremaw is freaking huge, I don't know if this is the same issue as the skeletal dragon from Bones 1 but it seems to be far bigger than the scale picture suggests.

Still undecided on Bones 4. There's still only a couple of bits that I like the look of and the employee debacle is putting me off.

Send them an email saying as much. Say you normally would hop on a Bones kickstarter out of principle just because you want to participate in the community project for the hobby, but if they're going to betray the community at large by standing by a Nazi sympathizer then you don't want your money to go to them.

The Perry brothers seem like really cool guys who are incredibly talented and living the life historic. They've worked on the Royal Armouries' Agincourt diorama and Peter Jackson's Gallipoli diorama.

Not many people can say they lost an arm in a cannon explosion. And not many people can say that after losing their dominant hand they could sculpt the mother loving Green Knight.
