Perpetual Werewolf, who I mentioned earlier in this thread, finally finished their full length. It is good, but doesn't quite capture the intensity of their live shows. They have also unfortunately broken up. But still, one of the best unknown bands in the world. If you like weird hardcore, weird punk, and cool instrumentation, it's worth listening.

Got to see these guys open for Dispatch on Friday night here in Gainesville, FL and I have to say they absolutely killed it. Apparently they used to be a 12 member ska/funk/whatever ensemble, but have since reduced the member count to 4 and are sort of reggae/funk fusion. They are excellent. Maryland/DC based folksy Americana group Pretty Gritty.

I'm on mobile and youtube is being a jerk but you can search them there or go to their page at prettygrittymusic.com. If you search youtube look for the song 'Scorned'; it's an older tune of theirs but pretty indicative of the kind of music they make. They started as a cover band mostly when they had a different name, but now they almost exclusively play original tunes.

Last summer they travelled the States doing various gigs, and I think later this year they're moving to Portland. But for now they count as local to me so I'm allowed to post it!

I'd have to say my favorite local band so far would have to be Black Carl. They have an awesome live presence, and the singer has some pipes. I guess it's best classified as funk rock? Thee Emergency is one of my favorite bands lately. they're sort of a Grunge/Motown deal with a certain quality I can't describe but reminds me of ABBA for some reason. They have three albums, Can You Dig It?, Solid, and Cracka Slang. Solid is one of my favorite albums. I haven't head Cracka Slang yet, but it's apparently more psychedelic/country then the previous two.

Here's the sad part though, there's almost nothing of them on the internet. The best I can do is this free MP3 of Attack of the Cobrasaurus from KEXP's website.

Personally, my favorite of the Nashville crop is still Those Darlins. They just released their third full-length, and they've earned a lot of buzz nationally in the last few years. I'm fairly certain Screws Get Loose and Mystic Mind are two of the best songs ever written, and they're really fun to see live. The album Screws Get Loose is pretty amazing as a whole if you're into 50's influenced garage rock with nods to Phil Spector's production style.

I may be a Savannah resident now but I still consider New York to be my 'local scene' - mainly because I don't know any Savannah bands yet.

I highly recommend going to see either of these bands if you're near New York and have the means.

Killcode -

So I've lived in sunny Reading for almost ten years now and the local scenes are mostly rubbish.

So that means my only option is to plug a few bands that my friends are in. I won't claim that they're any good, just that I like them and they're a lot of fun live. Plus free stuff.

Mutant Zombie Foetus

A mix of thrash/speed punk/grind/death and whatever else riffs they tried to play that day. All with not so great recording and lots energy. They've just put out what is probably their final EP... it's Half Life themed!

Cephelopod
http://cephelopod.bandcamp.com/album/cephelo-ep

Self described as trying to play all metal genres at once. A somewhat chaotic pile of oddness ontop of an exteme metal base. They once claimed to sound like Enslaved, just not on anything they've ever recorded.

Nyogtha
http://nyogtha.bandcamp.com/

Some good old evil drone. Occult soundscapes, feedback, lots of candlelit live shows. Pretty much everything you'd expected from ultra downtuned, ultra long Sunn worshipping stuff. Evil noise. Plus they've just had an album out on an actual label.
