I live in SF but decided to travel down for Harmontown show and documentary screening. It was everything I expected and more. The show was amazing, Kumail and Dan were funny as hell and the 150+ person audience crammed in the tiny Nerdmelt theatre made the whole thing ten times better. We went to the Drawing Room after and Dan and Erin showed up, so I got an opportunity to drunkenly gush to Dan about Community. The next day we went to the Harmontown movie screening and out of sheer luck we were seated directly behind the entire cast. It was pretty crazy watching the Harmontown documentary while also seeing the reactions of the main characters right in front of you. I noticed Dan biting his nails through all the embarrassing parts, and there was this great moment where Spencer said something really personal onscreen, and Jeff reached across the empty seat in front of me to put his hand on Spencer's arm. It was really sweet.

I'm glad Proops isn't in every episode, but I think he's a joy to have around in D&D. Tylenol is a fantastic character (in every sense of the word), and Spencer's ability to just roll with Proops' pseudo-DMing reflects his own awesomeness as a DM. I don't get the impression that Proops is wrecking some intricate story that Spencer spends weeks cooking up. I mean, have you heard him rap? Or improvise monsters? At this point I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Spencer just improvises everything.

I don't think there's a lot to be gained from looking at harmontown as a show really. It's basically just Dan and Jeff inviting people they like to hang out with them for an hour. I agree that Demorge isn't as funny as a lot of their guests but frankly I'd rather listen to dan and jeff just hang out with cool people for two hours than a full-on show where they purposefully try to choose people based on what they think their audience wants. That's literally every other podcast.

I actually spent some time with crazy laugh guy, and yeah you guys are spot on. Just not a ton of self-awareness. Otherwise a totally nice dude. Same for Dave Klein.

My gf who is friends w/spencer got him on. It's great because now we can continue feeling like contributing members of the DSA while only going to the fun events
