Another vote in favor of Sigma's suggestion. I like the mandatory include idea in principle but it sounds unenforceable without being really annoying. If they ever give us tools for player run tournaments, though, an in-client way to enforce custom rules would make it both practical and amazing. That could totally happen sometime in 2020.

So I was going to write an article about this deck for Hextechs but I decided actually no, I think it's too sweet to expose to the masses before a major tournament really, but here's a balls to the wall aggro deck, just need to decide on a sideboard at some point: Champion: Bertram Cragraven Troops 4x Charge Bot 4x Construct Foreman 4x Electroid 4x Gearsmith 1x War Machinist 4x Reactor Bot 2x Rocket Ranger Spells 3x Careful Rummaging 2x Sapper's Charge 2x Construction Plans: War Hulk 3x Crackling Bolt 3x Crackling Wit 1x Drowned Shrine of Ulthar 3x Fish Hands 1x Shrine of Prosperity 4x Forge of Caldoc Resources 7x Ruby Shard 7x Sapphire Shard 2x Shard of Innovation Reserves 2x Robotic Rapture 2x Volcannon Reserves are probably going to contain some more 1-of utility artifacts, maybe a couple of doubles depending on the meta. Tempted to include some more in the main deck too as Construct Foreman & the Forges allow me to get rid of them if they aren't relevant in the matchup, and if they are I can dig for them hard between the Gearsmiths & Careful Rummagings. Mass removal is obviously a problem, and the reason for the Fish Hands inclusion, but the reserves will lean on robotic rapture & volcannon to refuel & counterattack post wipe. Currently 24 artifacts main deck, so the Rocket Rangers will be swole pretty consistently, though the resource count may need to go up, not sure without the ability to playtest the deck.

I 'played' (drafted a crap deck the first time, just raredrafted the second) last night for the first time in a while, since I needed to burn some draft tickets that were about to expire. While drafting the pick window showed big and small cards simultaneously - is this a widespread bug? I'm amazed that the new UI is as buggy as it is, it seems like such a regression. Stops don't work and major display issues. I'm starting to lose faith in their ability to develop the game, which is unfortunate as I think the actual card game is great. But they're making MODO look like a good client.

The other day I had a draft crap itself on the 33rd pick after opening multiple legendaries and I was like "cool, now support can get me a non-expiring ticket!" then I jumped in the next queue because gotta use them tokens - we really need Set 2

I'm sure they'll extend them yet again. As a Pro Player who bought into the 4800(?) plat VIP package, how many VIP tickets should I have right now? I had a single VIP ticket w/o an expiration date appear some time last month, but haven't seen any new VIP tickets show up since then. I've started getting packs, but I'm a bit concerned that Oct VIP weekend is almost here and I haven't received anymore tickets.

The one display issue that is really bothering me right now is when you are sideboarding and none of the pictures load and you have to wait for the tooltip to appear to see which card is which. The side boarding timer is so quick that there's not enough time for me load all these tooltips.

Welp, I somehow managed to just draft a deck with 4 Mistborn Wendigos. One of those was 8th pick and one was like 12th. How? No idea, there were definitely other sapphire drafters. EDIT: Round 1 yielded more Wendigo face-time for my opponent than for me. Game 1 the only Wendigo I saw was one that got milled and I won via Elimination Specialist and War Hulk. Game 2 got into a stalled state and he Call of the Graved a Wendigo he'd countered earlier, then just failed to attack with it for quite a few turns while I had a Malfunctioning War Bot, a Turreted Wall, and a Research Adept getting me ever closer to victory. Round 2 got me some more Wendigo time. Game 1 I lost badly to a stack of Briar Legions and Nibblin Hunting Packs that got too big too quick for my removal, but he didn't draw any of either of those in the other two games while I drew my Elimination Specialists and Wendigos. Round 3 was a pretty good example of why you don't let someone draft 4 Wendigos. Because playing all 4 of them in game 1 won me the game. I'm praising the Wendigos but those two Elimination Specialists won me more games than the cannibals did. Honestly I think that card (Specialist) is one of the best cards in limited. Getting passed two of them was great. I honestly didn't even want the 3rd and 4th Wendigos (I got one 12th pick remember, which means even I passed on it the first time around), but once I had them I figured I might as well play them. Everything else in the deck except 2 Ruby Lances and 1 Burn was filler. And I was sweating the turn when I played the Elite Battle Tech because all I had in my hand was the second Elimination Specialist and I was sure he was going to play a Shadowgrove Witch and blow me out. That was honestly too greedy a play; playing the EBT first only let me kill one extra guy who wasn't really doing much anyway. Just killing the Mazat Ranger and Wind Whisperer would likely have won me the game, I didn't need to delay a turn to kill the Quick Strider too.

Schedule should be the same as last month ( https://hextcg.com/vip-tournament-weekend/ ), format is Sealed. No idea on the rewards. They said that the tickets would be distributed around 24 hours before the first tournament.

Decks on average will be worse, so don't get too worried if your deck feels kind of lovely. All the normal draft rules still apply: removal is at a premium, evasion is king, etc. Last time I played sealed, I had a decent ruby aggro with a Gore Feast and a Lord Alexander. I went 4-0, obviously.

Made it 2-0 so far in the VIP tournament, I'm in the AA's! First match was mill/sliver I guess... had me nervous once or twice but won the first two games. Second match was saph/ruby dwarves/fliers and it was a tough match. First we both stalled, but I got 20 damage on the board and stormcalled for the win. Lost second match due to him getting more fliers than me, and won the third pretty hands down since he got no fliers. I'm running a saph/diamond fliers/dwarfs deck. My notable rares were Urunaaz, Chaos Key and Mirror Knight. The matches take so long maybe Urunaaz is great in sealed but I only got like 7 blood cards total so couldn't even think about it. I've only got two combat tricks and two removal spells, just relying on strong fliers mostly. Edit: Lost 3rd round to a 5 shard deck... just had way more tricks and kept making favorable trades the first round. Second round he called to the grave my own Noble Citizenry and put it on a flier and stalled me until he cast Urunaaz. Not a huge deal, I didn't expect to get 4 wins with my deck and am happy I made it to 2 wins. Round 4 and my opponent is a no show. I haven't got a primal since the first few weeks of beta, I'm overdue. Would be a nice way to top the tournament off. katkillad2 fucked around with this message at 21:40 on Oct 24, 2014 |
