Corporate Intrigue is an great supplement, and I loved the chapter on Horizon. I have a feeling Horizon is going to be a major part of our group's next campaign, since my character's girlfriend is a Horizon-sponsored Idoru. She came into his life at his lowest point of a period of depression (ie it was the session's plot point), but now who knows if it was coincidence or not?

Davin Valkri posted:Why can't Shadowrun ever be about nice people? Maybe not completely "salvageable," but there are definitely ways to do good in the setting. One idea I had for a game was based on Ghost in the Shell, where the players were an elite Lone Star squad trying to do the right thing in a corrupt organization. In fact, 5E suggests that Runs that aren't profitable, but do some good, should reward extra karma.

The 4E supplement Corporate Guide has a whole chapter dedicated to Aztechnology along with the other AAAs. (Not Corporate Intrigue like I said earlier )

The debate between "Pink Mohawk" and "Mirrorshades" makes me think about what kind of group my friends and I are. We are all into trying to get high-end gear and coming up with perfect, smooth runs, but things always turn out wrong. Either through someone making a mistake, having a conscience, or wanting to do something stupid (or a combination of two or three), things usually end up in a crazy situation and we have to pull a win and/or survival out of our asses. At this point I think we're just the worst Mirrorshades ever, which actually seems kind of fun.

Diaghilev posted:Meanwhile, our team is currently preparing a very loud run against a Yakuza-run and MCT-funded casino. I'm looking forward to posting about the aftermath--one of our original plans was to crash an armored 18-wheeler into the casino foyer, but we discarded "Operation: Screaming Orgasm" because it wasn't loud enough. Researching our new plan has lead to me undoubtedly ending up on an NSA watchlist IRL for search terms like "DMT precursor" and "series-linked car batteries" and "overclocking a humidifier". Man, my group felt so good about ourselves when we decided to crash a van into a nightclub's foyer on our run. Guess we're not thinking big enough. But in all fairness, it was owned by my character's friend, and she almost killed him after she was rescued and saw the damage.

If loving Goon quality control is better than your 6 months of effort get the gently caress out of the way. I would love this. I'm about to be a part of a 5e game, and the less frustration, the better. Also, which page of the thread should I go to for game fixes discussion?

J. Alfred Prufrock posted:Shadowrun is a setting in which orks and elves regularly replace limbs and even torsos with robot parts, and a genderqueer is weirding you out? Like, okay, a dragon being the president, that you can understand...but somebody who wants to try out being a guy and a girl is too strange for you? The weirdest part of the Shadowrun fluff are the male users creepily hitting on devgrrl.

I just remember in 4e where she was Piston's naive but enthusiastic hacker protege. I must have missed the later the supplemental books. ProfessorCirno posted:I mean, keep in mind playstyle, which not everyone would be into (hilariously not plenty of people on the Shadowrun forums!). I vastly prefer a more "cinematic" style that would reward pushing your limits and getting a bit crazy with things. The way I see it, when the game is running silent, it's still got style. When it gets loud, it turns into an action movie (Hong Kong style, if adepts are involved). Fights can still be fast and messy, but that doesn't mean you can't get all Sleeping Dogs about it. You can have a plan, but if you can't think outside the plan, you're doomed if things go wrong (and things should probably go wrong, or else your team has spent far too much time planning and not enough time playing). Man, that would be awesome. I just want fights to be like Hard Boiled and/or The Raid: Redemption.

Just got this, and I'm currently checking out the martial arts section. Unlike in 4e, martial arts don't just give a modifier to an action (eg +1 to disarm, etc.) , but grant special techniques, which can do things from giving modifiers to making special actions that only martial artists can take. Learning a style costs 7 karma, takes 1 month to learn, and costs 2500 nuyen. Learning a technique for a style costs 5 karma, takes 2 weeks, and costs 1500 nuyen. EDIT: I'm still unsure what the point of trick-shot is. I know it helps you to intimidate opponents while in combat, but how does that help? Does it just make them not want to fight? Or do they start getting penalties to attacks and stuff? EDIT 2: Haha, hitting someone in the genitals can make them start vomiting for up to 4 Combat Turns if they fail a Body + Will save. ProfessorCirno posted:Got it, reading through it. My thoughts: Yeah, that's my main issue with Trickshot. Pulling off some Equilibrium poo poo sounds awesome, but I might as well just fluff up my regular attacks. Some of the special called shot effects are really nasty, especially if you're in melee. Shots that make opponents "Winded," make them unable to perform complex actions for as many rounds as the "original DV." So even my not-optimized martial artist could take a guy out for a melee guy for at least 7 rounds. "One-Armed Bandit" makes a limb useless for up to 3 rounds, and they suffer -6 to all rolls using that arm until it's healed. EDIT: Does the bonuses from "Superior Position" and "Opponent on the Ground" stack? +3 to Called Shots sound like they would be effective in that situation. Last game I played I went The Raid: Redemption on some dude by kicking out his knee, grabbing his arm and rolling into an arm bar, and then shooting him in the head. Melee with the new called shots is fun.

Speaking of Run Faster, what are people's impressions of it? Seems to be on sale at DriveThruRPG for $24.99. Worth that much at least?
