What annoys me more is that some applications don't even care about the OS language, the set locale takes priority. In some cases this is even unchangeable, so you end up with apps running in Dutch on an English OS.
I learned, many years too late, that you can just set your locale to US and manually edit currency, time and calendar formatting and not have that problem (apart from the Flash updater for some reason).

Dunno about Windows 8 though, what with localized app stores and poo poo.

The App Store is in English, but the highlighted apps in the store and on the Live tile are in French. I know that if I set OS language to Dutch it'll all be in Dutch though. Apparently having an English OS with Dutch locale in Belgium means you want everything in French.
Yeah, okay, then setting your locale to US should also be a superior way out of that clusterfuck. I can't believe how many years I thought this was some important unchangeable OS setting that I should be truthful about, because I got asked about it during the OS install. But really, apart from date, time and currency formatting (which as said you can customize to match the Dutch formatting -if you can handle English names of days and months) it does nothing for me but create these kind of quagmires.

The only thing you'll be cheating yourself out of is a local TV program guide app or something similar. Which you probably wouldn't be using if it was in French anyway.

The ImgBurn I just downloaded from their homepage does not have spyware or adware or toolbars or whatever. So at this time it's not them being sleazy, but there are download sites that don't have qualms about bundling clean stuff with their own crap.

Also, Google verbatim with "system speedup" between quotes doesn't give me anything but pages containing exactly that string (on the first page at least).

I agree that all this ducking and dodging is getting annoying though.

It's not the download site, it's them. Look at their forums, there's bitching all over it, and the author is like "it's not a problem, you can opt out :smug:" and one of the mods posted "anyone who blindly clicks next through an installer deserves what they get".

This is malware. Right here. By any definition.

Calling it "Search Protect" is lovely. Hiding it behind "express" and "custom" is extra lovely.
Weird, weird, weird. I literally just tried it then and it wasn't there. Same version number as in the screenshot. I wonder if it made any difference that I picked the download from their own mirror, rather than the 3rd party ones listed on their site.

Ran it in Sandboxie and denied any outgoing connections during the install, but I'd be surprised if that's what made the difference.

Anyway, if it's them, then forget what I said and they can go eat a bag of dicks.

I do not get why those examples always include spaces. Seems like making word boundaries explicit would make dictionary attacks even more easy, while it does nothing to make the password easier to remember or enter.

On this subject: Is there anyway to make a backup image of a Surface and easily transfer it to another one without third-party software? In Windows 7 this was trivial, but it seems loving impossible in W10 and I feel like I must be an enormous moron for not being able to do this.
It would seem that the backup tool that was available in Windows 7 and was stripped from 8.1, is present in Windows 10 and accessible from the control panel.

Control Panel > System and Security > Backup and Restore (Windows 7)

From there you should be able to make a system image and a recovery disc.
