Hi, I'm new to this game and already spent a bunch of money on Ice Storm and Red Veil, but then someone showed me that Avatar and now I want to play the army that gets that one. Is there an army list somewhere of stuff that's reasonably friendly for a new player to pick up and play?

I've got a bunch of unpainted Ghulams and Alguaciles from Red Veil/Ice Storm so I'm gonna paint them up in my YJ army colours and proxy them as Kuang Shi. Enemies of the State indeed. :getin:

My usual go-to for stopping it as a Bakunin player, the Moira MSR, doesn't even feel good because it's usually b2 12 vs b2 8. If I lose FTF, I'm boned, and even if when I win I'm likely to score just one wound.

EDIT:

The HMRC is just as good as the missile launcher. It's feasible to take two Yan Huo's, so give it a shot. HMRC makes a good lieutenant.

I've officially found a group of Infinity players in my area! Problem is I have no idea what my list should look like so I'm fiddling with a generalist group based on what I've read about what's good:

The Crane Agent, Celestial Guards, and Xi Zhuang are all in a 5-man Core fireteam, which if I'm reading the rules on this correctly means the Crane Spitfire gets 5 shots at effective BS 16?

Otherwise the gimmick is to set up the Bao Troop and Rui Shi on rooftops or in good firelanes to cover flanking attempts while the Kanren plays a shell game and pretends to be 2 different types of Kanren (is this allowed, or is the AHD open information?) while the Ninja Hacker hangs out and waits to eat opposing hackers or make an end run at the objective. Sophie's also there to patch people up if needed.

I've never actually played though, so I'm not sure if this list has any glaring weaknesses I might be missing or if it's just completely against what the ISS is meant to do. Any help is appreciated!

Get rid of Boarding Shotgun Kuang Shi in favor of Chain Rifles, if you dont use them in a link, they are not good for anything.
You get 12 points from that - throw a flashlight bot (chaiy yaokong) for 8 points in the first group to get them to 10 orders.
As was said, Rui Shi is not good for ARO - you want Total reaction Husong for that. Rui Shi is a great attack piece that you can buff anywhere on the field thanks to it being a repeater.

Yeah! I made some adjustments to the list, dropped the Bao, got a full set of Kuang Shi Chain Rifles for both groups, and replaced Xi Zhuang for a Forward Observer.

I played my very first day of Infinity at my LGS today; after a couple of simple annihilation 150pt games to figure it out, we hopped right into a 300pt game of Safe Zone, ISS vs Hassassin.

Opponent opted to go first, so I stuck my Rui Shi on top of a building, and despite being a questionable ARO piece he ended up killing a couple units and forcing my opponent to burn almost his entire order pool killing it.

It was a super fun game with a lot of back and forth, mostly my Kuang Shi running out and dying to a massive sniping nest he set up at his end of the table. It looked like he was going to win until at the bottom of the third turn I ran my Sophotect out from behind cover, into a smoke cloud on top of the objective, while my link team blew their entire order pool dropping a line of smoke right through the middle of the table and madly dashing to get into B2B with one of the consoles on his side of the table.

And of course, Ninja pops out of hidden deployment and snaps up two objective points by pressing the button and holding a completely empty quadrant.

My first real game of Infinity and I get a minor victory at 6-5. I'm really excited to play again next week! :D

I like the idea of dropping two Yan Huo models on the table after deployment, but I feel like you can get more value out of the list by trading in Sunny T for a Celestial Guard LT, another Kuang Shi, a Killer Ninja, and still probably have enough points left for a snifferbot.

The last tier event for my LGS ITS is Decapitation. I have no idea how to build an ISS list to take advantage of that, but I kinda wanna do a two Su Jian list powered by a Kuang Shi battery and led by Sun Tze.

How important are specialists in Decapitation? I know it's mostly about picking off Lieutenants, but should I be bringing a Sophotect along just in case?

Alternatively: gently caress Su Jians, fill out on AVA 2 Rui Shi and AVA 3 TR bots then sit in a corner and wait for them to come to me. :kheldragar:

More tactically, if you're sitting in cover, and the enemy walks up to Chain Rifle you, how would you react? I lost my HMG Hsien to three Kuang Shi launching themselves into his suppressive fire.

Any time my opponent doesn't dodge a Chain Rifle shot I consider it a win; it's a common thread in many RPGs that the fewer dice you have to roll to deal damage, the better. This works inversely for damage saves, too!

It's also a win-win for the Kuang Shi. When he comes around the corner your opponent can dodge or shoot; if he shoots, you Chain Rifle him. If he dodges, you Pistol him.

Khisanth Magus posted:

As the yu Jing player in that situation, if he elects to shoot you and you chain rifle him and he wounds you but you don't kill him, do you choose to exlode if you are in explode range or do you go dogged.

Explode if it's a 1 on 1 situation; if it's your turn and your Kuang Shi explodes, they don't get to make a Dodge roll, they have to soak a damage 13 hit with Shock. It's relevant if you're hitting targets with Dogged or No Wound Incap, since it bypasses those effects.

Dogged is for when there are other Kuang Shi bringing up the rear, or I can hit more people with a Chain Rifle than an explosion.

There's also a psychological element, too; if your Kuang Shi is dogged, your opponents will often be reluctant to shoot back to finish them off rather than dodge and allow you to put two pistol shots into their chest from point-blank in no cover. As Sun Tze tzays: reading your opponent and is just as important as reading the battlefield.

Kuang Shi are so good.

Genghis Cohen posted:

I think it'd be better to explode (doesn't require orders and doesn't grant a fresh attempt to dodge). However that is pretty bloody close, enough so he would have the option to declare Engage rather than anything else.

The math for Infinity FtF rolls is a bit beyond me, but I don't think the pistol is always the best option there. Chain rifle is about a 1/3 chance to connect against that high-PH dodge. Pistol you get two dice, but each has a chance of missing (from 1/3 to 2/3 chance depending on range and cover) plus the chance to lose the FtF anyway. And a pistol is lower damage, with your target receiving the cover bonus to ARM if it connects. I'd pistol against a high PH, low ARM, 1 wound model in 8" and out of cover . . . not so sure otherwise.

Infinity is a complex game.

Thankfully, we have a tool for that!

This is your standard Kuang Shi rounding cover and putting two bullets into a dodging Fusilier.

This is the same situation, but with a Chain Rifle

With the Pistol, your Kuang Shi has a 50% chance of putting a single Wound on the Fusiler; Chain Rifle's damage plummets to 30% if they attempt to dodge.

If the Fusilier shoots the Kuang Shi, there's a 60% chance of getting that wound via the Chain Rifle, vs a 38% chance if the Kuang Shi shoots with the pistol.

This is all under ideal conditions, but generally speaking Kuang Shi coming around a corner and popping a cheerleader gang with a Chain Rifle happens often enough that it makes a good situation to base the math off of.

I played an opponent in a tournament who ran a 5-man link team of DeFersen, another Hospitaller, and 3 Magister Knights, and that was pretty bad-rear end. Unfortunately for him, his game plan sort of unraveled when I took out the two TO Camo Order Sergeant specialists upon which he was relying to accomplish objectives in my first turn. He ended up having to drop the third one (a MULTI Sniper) prone to get away from by Djanbazan HMG, who promptly advanced, entered suppression, and kept him locked down all game. This pretty much forced him to bully his way up the field with his HI link, but the presence of a nasty terrain choke point meant my Janissary ML was doing yeoman's work getting multiple troops under a template with AROs in her ideal range band. By the time he was able to position one of his Magisters to get in a clean shot at my Janissary, I'd broken his link and removed his Burst bonus. It was...not pretty. The guy was a great opponent, and all that HI was a tough nut to crack, but ultimately it was a whole huge whack of points that wasn't winning him the game. And adding insult to injury, I obliterated what lead he had on points in that zone with a 38-point IntelCom card. Between the coincidental soft counters in my list, the mission objectives, and the terrain, he was looking at an uphill battle from the get go.

But on that particular table, a super-jumping, Spitfire-packing Seraph would probably have wrecked my poo poo, because I couldn't have controlled his lanes of approach, which would have allowed him to pick me apart bit-by-bit in his first turn.

I learned this lesson last week when my opponent rolled over me with a 5man link team of DeFersen+knights. I ended up conceding when he chewed up my entire order pool, then the next game against a different opponent two Kuang Shi proceeded to push his poo poo in by killing ~60 points worth of troops then exploding their Lieutenant into unconsciousness.

Never count out the little dudes, they're more effective than you think.

To answer your question; only the 1 would be able to return fire on your Intruder. SSL2 only allows the target of an attack to react in ARO; without MSV2, nobody else in the fireteam would be able to react as they have no LOF of the attacker.
