Yeah, there is actually a Submachine gun. It isn't in the starter though, which is why we don't have the info on it.

EDIT: Long answer, the Combirifle is a rifle that uses special scifi tech to automatically switch from standard ammo to some sort of flechette canister or something at short range, a sort of spontaneous shotgun transformation. However, since it uses an onboard computer, it can be disable by EMP weapons. It also costs a point or two more. The SMG is really good out to medium range, and fills your carbine niche.

Eh, IIRC they've said that sniper rifles are getting cheaper. I'd rather pay fewer points for a basically-as-good reactive weapon and spend those points on a different, offense-specialized model.

Yeah, that's valid. I just look at something like the Ragik, where the sniper variant is 35/1, and the HMG is 38/1.5. I really can see no possible situation in which I'd want the sniper instead of the HMG.

I can't see any possible situation in which you'd want a reactive weapon on a drop troop anyway, to be honest. I'd rather have the drat Rifle + LSG combo than a Sniper Rifle in that scenario.

Yeah, that's kinda what I'm saying. Defining the sniper rifle right now, it's just an HMG that's not great in the active turn. That seems kinda sad for something as iconic as a sniper rifle.

Exactly. With AD you even get the opportunity to drop it exactly where you need it based on the current situation. The problem there being if you're investing in AD anyway, you might as well get the more aggressive gun in most situations.

The minimal cost difference is the real problem. I'm sure it would mess with quite a few other things, but if Sniper Rifles (not MULTI) cost almost the same as Rifle+Light Shotgun, but ate up SWC, I think it would be a lot better.

Can someone explain to me the particulars of using a link team of irregular troops?

I remember finding a list once of all the infinity models that had loose weapons packed with them. Obviously the special ops do, but I know that Achilles has a loose Spitfire, and the Ghulam doctor had an extra rifle.
Anyone know where I can find that list?

Thanks, those are from Litko. Most of them are just glued one, which works well enough, but some of the more outrageous models like the Ragiks required pinning.

I am really unsure how I feel about the loss of disabling weapons and equipment. I'm sure it will speed things up a bit, but I really appreciated there being some advantage to the rifle.

Signal
Dec 10, 2005

so, MULTI Snipers. There's a different profile in the weapons section than there is at the end, and I'm wondering which one is right.

From the weapons section:
D14 B2 AP
D15 B2 DA

From the back, both are listed as Damage 15.

Also, why would you ever not fire Double Action all the time?

Signal

Wasn't there someone who'd made an alternate format of markers for infinity? I like the look of the Warsenal ones (although they're too expensive), but a lot of the standard ones aren't very clear.

Signal

Yeah, Sekbans are better but still don't compete.

We had an interesting situation come up in a game yesterday.

There was a Galwegian inside a smoke ZVZ, and a 4-man Wu Ming Link outside. When the Galwegian spends his order for speculative shot to throw an additional smoke grenade, what AROs are available to who?

1: The two Wu Ming under the new smoke template, as it is an attack.
1a: They may dodge at PH-3 because they don't have LoS to the attacker
1b: They may dodge at PH, because they have Sixth Sense.
2: No one, because smoke grenades don't actually target models since they're non-targeted.
3: No one, because smoke grenades aren't an attack, they're a Special Dodge.
4: The whole link, because they all are on in a link team, and since one model is being affected they all can dodge. Passing their PH roll gives them their 3" dodge.
1a: They may dodge at PH-3 because they don't have LoS to the attacker
1b: They may dodge at PH, because they have Sixth Sense.

I think these are all the possible options, and it may be that I'm overthinking it. Since the YJ player really wanted the movement, and the CHA player was hoping to get into close combat, it was surprisingly important.

EDIT:

Bear Throne posted:

Actually Sekbans were really good for QK in N2. Running two links with doctors and long range weaponry in QK was amazing. Once they made it too the midfield, you could lock your opponent down hard, and it was almost impossible for them to make any progress against you. Doctor links in general were vastly underused in N2, and are only getting better, especially in Haqqislam.

It's not that Haris is bad, it's just that Odalisques are basically just better. The HRL is pretty baller, but the extra wound on everyone makes up for the lack of doctor, and the extra speed is nice. Nanopulsers are better than Chain Colts in general, and the the option to grab Sixth Sense L2 is wonderful. The only part where I see Sekbans being more useful is if you need that 2 points, the specialist options are needed for scenarios, you need the HRL's punch, or (comedy option) you're looking for a Haris to back up your 5-member Odalisque Link.

Signal
Dec 10, 2005

It should really just be "a link team leader engaging in a Long skill gains no benefit from the link, and none of the link members participate in the skill, although they count as activating for the purpose of AROs." Then you could still have speculative grenade tosses without having to worry about 5-man suppressive fire.

Well, the other alternative is basically "Okay then, I'm going to pull up your faction and compare the equipment options you have to those with possible lieutenant options." Right?

Signal
Dec 10, 2005

I mostly asked about identifying legitimate lieutenant options, because it's come up in our group with differing experience levels. Since I know which of my opponents models could be a lieutenant with the same loadout from spending excessive time looking at the army builder, it feels only fair to let them know the same. We also don't play timed tournaments or anything, since we just play in my living room, so that isn't really a concern.
