For terrain, I'll likely find who supplies card stock in my area (right after I find out what's card stock in Lithuanian). Meanwhile, I'm doodling with foamcore and stuff. I read the OP, no two terrain pieces 8" apart, that's fine by me. One of the things I hate about Flames of War FB group is that they post pictures with terrain so incredibly sparse, it breaks any and all immersion. Me, I'd like to make my own run down sci-fi ghetto, all rust and neon pain. That's implying that I'll have time, money and talent! As for starters... I like modeling them on Infinity Army to check the point costs. Order Knights starter is about 149, Neoterran 230. I don't think NTCA is that newbie friendly, since you would want to start at 150, right? And, like I said, we're buying starters for starters And, the black cornrows Algo is the best Algo, and probably my favorite resculpt. I wonder how the new Algo hacker looks like. And here I thought (based on Infinity Army) that sectorials don't get that many in the way of mercs while non sectorials can run wild! I really like look of Kaplans and Sforza, and Anaconda, too! ED: QK starter seems a nice list, most Arm 2 and full of special abilities, even if low on specialist and possessing the God-awful Odalisques mini. Couldn't even make a legal starter out of HB, while the regular Haq starter seem fun, even if devoid of any special powers, and I made the Janissary a Leutenant (it's a no-no, right?) By the way, do minis ship with options, or is it "the starter says missile launcher, and you're getting one"? I mean, I know proxying is the name of the game, but still, I'd rather not pretend a rocket launcher is a combi rifle. JcDent fucked around with this message at 03:57 on Nov 11, 2014 |

Actually, I have an irrational hate of WMH which I can't explain (except for the color coded country magic), since I have no experience with it, besides reading about the gameplay and fluff. Maybe I should read a goon introduction, now that I ventured outside LP zone. Warhams placing was incidental, I wanted to play it ever since I find out that table top is a thing (My 40K romance goes "Space Marine" the book -> holy poo poo, there's more to it than 1 book?! DoW1 -> actual toy soldiers?!), but AM codex and 7th Ed hit about the time when I was painting Prince August proxies (I'll post some of my stuff in the Unspiration thread), and then I got too infuriated to play it. I'm still trying to play it on fan made Kill Team rules, which more similar to Necromunda/Mordheim. About the same time, I got into reading Infinity rules and I really liked them - probably the first time I got interested in game because of the rules, not the fluff. Now I think it's the bee's knees and just waiting for N3 to see if it's still cool, just in case. I think I kind of like skirmish more; there's more worth to your soldier's lives, and heroes look more heroic, unlike in say, 40K Apocalypse where your Chapter Master Manus Ironblood gets Stregth D'd to death. Somebody was really really pissed that she got removed from YJ roster and that it's unfair that the other teams didn't get sepsitorized characters. I think there was also a guy who came to thread saying he's currently looking to get into the game, but this kind of "squatting" is unacceptable! Recently, there are more talks in the vein of "which faction is the best to live in" and "which one is the most evil", but they're not as frequent as what you refer to as theory crafting... and YJ tears.

A guy who keeps whining about everything new, any changes, because apparently they're OP, nerfed to hell and useless, boil the fun out of the game and make it a shadow of its former self. He's so negative that he's been banned from his IRL Infinity group and put on ignore by like 80% of the official forums, I don't know how he hasn't been banned yet since he's outright said that he'd lost hope for positive changes and is just trolling CB. He's a valuable resource because he 1. concentrates ~40% of bad posting in one easily-ignored account (another ~40% being Kanluwen, for slightly different reasons), and 2. serves as a bad example of the "that's what you'll become if you start shitposting" kind. also, let me tell you how HMGS ARE NOW USELESS TAGS ARE USELESS N3 WAS AN INSIDE JOB

Guges made a post saying something (in the ruleset that isn't even out yet) was nerfed or OP or whatever and then proceeded to back it up by saying that probability is additive (if you have two 30% chances at something, it is 60% to get it). So yea. On the other hand, it is the official forms for something on the internet so they've got some unrepentant fanboys who will act like you are actively engaged in genocide if you said something like: I think the studio Aleph models are technically well painted but the colors just don't do it for me personally. So how much of the Guges thing is him being an idiot, and how much of that is his original opinions being blown out of proportions and the entire thing descending into a internet tribal blood feud.

No, Guges is a particular kind of special: I didn't know about him before the unveiling of the new HMG range bands, but after those were previewed he somehow managed to make the exact same post in slightly different words in every single loving thread on the official forums. Seriously. Often even threads with absolutely nothing to do with game balance, game rules, N3, HMGs, or even TAGs. I recall him managing this even in a painting thread. When he gets obsessed, he gets obsessed. In other news, I wound up not playing my Teuton list last night because one of our Infinity players offered to give me a demo of Firestorm Armada. I liked it; it's relaxing compared to how unrelentingly intense Infinity tends to be. Pity there's no thread that I can find for it though. Firestorm was interesting, but the luster wore off pretty quickly for me. It seemed like the man behind the curtain in that game was that you were really just rolling dice to see if you got exploding dice/crits. So I felt like I was sitting there with the game refusing to advance because all the shots were bouncing off a target until someone rolled a "natural 20" type roll and then stuff happened. I didn't play enough of it to say for sure if that is a fair or mathematically accurate assessment, and even if it is, some people really like that "natural 20" experience so the game refusing to budge until someone rolls "epic" dice isn't bad. Personally, I like the Infinity style crits/monster rolls more, where the game will advance without crits or monster rolls, but crits and monster rolls are an X factor that keep you from feeling too sure about what is going to happen, but there isn't quite the same amount of swing like you've got in WM/H where the damage cap on a single attack is pretty absurd.

I bought into firestorm too, with at that point having Infinity being the only other system i've played. There were things I liked about it, but games take so long. Maybe thats just compared to infinity, but I've been sticking to skirmish level stuff since. Ships are easy to stick together at least. Which is more than I can say for Malifaux...
