http://skeptoid.com/episodes/4085 This is pretty drat good summary of why Tower 7's collapse was completely sensible given its damage. Skeptoid is a pretty drat awesome site for this kind of poo poo, and has so far avoided any of the sexist of militant atheism poo poo that seeps into a lot of sketpic websites. Now watch someone post something where he did or said something terrible I did not know about.

The Cataline Conspiraces fit conspiracy theory decently well. The prevailing one being that Cicero engineered the events himself to boost his own image, and to create a problem for himself to solve. His handling of the events, notably executing Roman citizens without trial, hounded Cicero for the rest of his career, as did suspicion of his own part in them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catiline http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Catilinarian_Conspiracy

A conspiracy needs some kind of backroom dealings though. Caesar openly picked a fight with the Helvetii, and then just kept using the branched off conflicts as pretexts for total invasion under the guise of "defending Roman interests." While his stated goals were completely false, his real goals were not hidden to anyone, and were openly called out in the Senate by his opponents. The Triumvirate is probably a better example. Where the 3 most powerful people in the Republic used backroom deals to split the entire country among themselves, and were completely successfull in doing so. Popular Thug Drink posted:There's just something weird to me about the idea of a skeptic 'community'. Things like homeopaths, energy bracelet scams, psychics preying on the ignorant, and a million other not religion issues are perfectly valid targets of activism and stuff, and skeptics groups have helped get some of that stuff off the market, and in Australia, got an energy bracelet manufacturer to pay it's customers back. A lot of them also work with the groups that are fighting creationism in schools and textbooks and stuff, and encourage grousp that do science outreach for kids. The problem is the most vocal people are fuckers like Dawkins, and have dominated the movement/group through their already established reputations and dominating personalities.
