It's like FIFA and IOC are competing against each other about who's the most corrupt and has the largest amount of old men in charge.

The Mail says new evidence has come to light that might result in the WC being taken away from Qatar.

Wenger thinks having the world cup in the winter is good idea for the security of the supporters. Have to say I haven't thought of the security aspect of it tbh. Another reason why giving it to Qatar just gets more and more bizarre.

quote:

Wenger thinks it's a feasible idea to play the competition in winter but stressed that the safety of the supporters is the most important thing to take into consideration.
"Arsenal will do what English football decides," said Wenger. "Of course we want to adapt to the behaviour of English football.
"To me it looks reasonable to play in the winter because the only thing that matters is the safety of the supporters who go there and attend the games.

"The players can cope with the heat because they are prepared. They will be in great condition."
Football League chairman Greg Clarke said there should be a re-vote on Thursday but Wenger disagreed when he was asked if he would back a re-election process.

"No, unless there are some irregularities proven, then yes. But if there is nothing irregular which has happened, why should you re-vote?
"Otherwise you can then ask every time that people are not happy with what comes out to vote again. You have to respect the vote and adapt to the situation.

"The only thing to me which looks surprising is they have not considered that [summer heat] at the moment of the vote."

Also, does anyone know why Platini has such a massive boner for hating the English league? It's like he goes out of his way to insult the UK and the FA any way he can.

He doesn't, it's a myth mostly made up by english media. I'm pretty sure he hates everyone equally.

Idk what he thinks about other leagues but he cries about how horrible England is more than Alex loving Salmond.

You never get that impression reading non-british media. He moans a lot yeah, but he seems more critical about the spanish league. There's no special bias against england from him, it's a myth.

Qatar World Cup 2022 investigation: former Fifa vice-president Jack Warner and family paid millions
Documents appear to show a senior Fifa official and his family were paid millions by a company controlled by a former Qatari football official shortly after the country won its bid for the 2022 World Cup

A senior Fifa official and his family were paid almost $2 million from a Qatari firm linked to the country’s successful bid for the 2022 World Cup, The Telegraph discloses.
Jack Warner, the former vice-president of Fifa, appears to have been personally paid $1.2 million (£720,000) from a company controlled by a former Qatari football official shortly after the decision to award the country the tournament.

Payments totalling almost $750,000 were made to Mr Warner’s sons, documents show. A further $400,000 was paid to one of his employees.
It is understood that the FBI is now investigating Trinidad-based Mr Warner and his alleged links to the Qatari bid, and that the former Fifa official’s eldest son, who lives in Miami, has been helping the inquiry as a co-operating witness.

You think Qatar is corrupt? Russia would like a word. The article is mostly about Sochi and the IOC, but FIFA gets a honorable mention towards the end.

quote:

On 2 December 2010, the FIFA Executive Committee voted in Zurich for Russia to host the World Cup 2018.

The tournament is set to take place across 11 cities, mostly in the west of the country.

It is another huge construction project, which Russian prime minister Dmitry Medvedev claims will cost around 20 billion Euro. As with the Winter Olympics in Sochi, much of the hard lifting will fall onto the backs of migrants.

In the city of Samara, just north of the border with Kazakhstan, the ministry for Labour, Employment and Migration puts the number of migrant workers already at 56,000. Spread across the 11 cities, the total is likely to be in the hundreds of thousands.

But the Russian parliament has taken steps to ensure that the real figure might never be known. In July 2013, the government passed a law removing various provisions of the Labor Code afforded to World Cup 2018 workers, including migrants.

Applicable to all FIFA and Russian companies, contractors, sub-contractors associated with the tournament’s building projects, it suspends worker rights on overtime pay, working hours and holiday.

Additionally, it allows companies to hire - and fire - migrant workers without obtaining any permits from the state or informing the tax or migration authorities.

The law is of significant concern to international labor organisations who say that it facilitates unaccountable migration and hiring practices - even for forced or child labor.

According to Anna Bolsheva, Policy and Campaign Officer for Building and Woodworkers' International, a Geneva-based member of the Global Union Federation, "officially" five World Cup workers have already died.
