When I was about 4, my dad told me it was time to stop playing with toys and get ready for bed. I turned my head away slightly and pointedly ignored him. He repeated himself, and I replied "I can't hear you when you say that." My youngest sister, when presented with beets on her dinner plate, took a tentative smell of them and explained her findings. "This definitely smells like human blood."
