The only video I ever saw of Jesse was back before Starbound came out, they gave Totalbiscuit and Jesse special keys to show off the game, and every time TB tried to explain something, Jesse would start shrieking like a loving idiot about how he could wiggle the flashlight or something else equally banal and infuriating. I watched like five minutes and couldn't watch the shrieking howler monkey be amazed by the jump button for a sixth straight minute.

One thing I found with /r/letsplay is that almost all of the advice given there was how to draw people in, not to actually keep them there. I don't want to watch some monotone unfunny guy regardless of how amazing his thumbnails are or how popular the game he's playing is. For strictly view count, sure, I guess it works, but actual substance seems to be secondary to them. On a similar note, a friend of mine sent me this screenshot from a 4chan thread forever ago. Apparently the one Kirby video with double digit views is a video they posted on the video game board. It was basically a Game Grumps knock off by two people with zero chemistry who kept talking over each other. Sure it's all flashy, and there are multiple games and episodes to choose from, but when it comes down to it, no substance = no views. With that said I don't actually know how to fix a problem like that aside from "git gud", which I don't know how to do either, so I'm just kind of blowing hot air. My point is /r/letsplay is pretty bad and their advice is terrible.

Reddit is pretty bad, I saw a recent thing where they pieced together random bits of information Danny mentioned on Game Grumps episodes to try to diagnose why he was at a doctor recently. It's basically youtube comments except organized.

At one point he started making GBS threads on an article where the dude who made Five Nights at Freddy's donated $250000 to a children's hospital. Like, he was actually against the guy donating a bunch of his money to a children's hospital. Captain Planet had more sensible villains.

For the most part I just start off with "Welcome back", although I still haven't found the 'right way' of introducing the first episode in an LP. For Metal Gear I've been starting episodes off by calling someone on codec and letting their conversation open the episode. My favourite was when I called Mei Ling, planning to keep refusing to save until she gets mad, but she immediately unleashes a tirade about how engineers are ruining the world including herself, and how there shouldn't be engineers anymore or something insane like that

Swat 4 is the absolute tits if you can get 4/5 people playing at once, two on red, two on blue, and one as gold. I'll always have a special place in my heart for police games that massively penalize you for not following proper procedure. Beanbags for life
