Holy poo poo Anand was crushed by Magnus in Zurich. 21 moves! Poor guy.

Magnus was pretty rusty too though, but is tied with Aronian for first now. Pretty exciting!

Fortunately, that was just the blitz. The real chess is starting just now. Nakamura-Caruana looks the most interesting to start.
Oh I know. Sorry for not specifying, but that game was just... Wow

This crazy level of turnaround is rarely seen, but I feel like Magnus more often than others manages to do it. We saw it at least one time (although not as bad) in the WC as well. He is awesome at not resigning and pushing and exploiting blunders in his lost positions. Almost like swindles...

Carlsen - Aronian in 15 minutes should be good. Both are playing really well in Zurich.
Aronian took that home with no problems. Aronian 9, Carlsen 8, very exciting. Poor Anand got hammered.

And now, Re: thread title, Carlsen – Nakamura.

Oh and Naka actually managed a draw. Even more exciting.

And congratulations to Carlsen for winning after drawing the last game exactly the way he drew the eighth game in the WC! He needs to work on his rapid play though.

Seems like having a world chess champion is becoming a drain on the Norwegian government.

They're being asked to stump up $15m for the Olympiad in Tromso, and $7m for the World Championship. Maybe they should just move them both to Vegas...

They've already shelled out $12.6m for the Olympiad, but now Tromsø need $2.5m more. Not sure if they're bluffing or not, but they're threatening to cancel the Olympiad if they don't get the extra money…

And also FIDE changed the rules while (literally, I think) Tromsø were writing their Application, so they had to arrange the world cup last year and that came from the money they got for hosting the olympiad. That's basically the entire sum they're trying to scrape together now.

So Norway Chess is on RIGHT NOW. In the first round all games were draws, but Grischuk blundered against Caruana and lost. Too bad.

During the live show it was also revealed that the final 12 million NOK were secured for the chess olympiad in Tromsø! Phew.

Speaking of nationalism, as a Norwegian it's really exciting to watch Norway Chess now, not just because of Magnus but mainly Agdestein. What an awesome guy
