I know SotA isn't in any real competition with Pantheon, but in my mind they represent different design philosophies for the genre. SotA was supposed to be the thing that breaks conventional design and does something fun with it, while Pantheon would return to the old ways. I really thought SotA would've been the winner, because doing new things sometimes improves the genre. Instead, we got another SC style whaling expedition that couldn't be bothered to remove the plastic wrap off the unity engine. I mean, Pantheon could still go way off the rails, but so far their alpha footage nailed the feel of old EQ. It's scary to think they could end up being more successful than this game.

Even though the game is dog poo poo now, I'll revisit it in five years and see what's going on. Assuming Portalarium survives long enough to get more episodes out, I'd imagine they'll expand on what is keeping the community around (sandbox features). Then again, the "game feels like Unity scenes put together with asset store packages" problem will never go away so it's kind of rotten to the core. I wonder if people would trust RG with another crowdfunding campaign if he were to just go all in on a MMORPG.

I have an absurd amount of money put into this (I wanted those assets, don't judge me, I thought they'd at least create their own content) and I don't get to select a property until August 11th. Check your lot selection batch in your backer portal. I'm a bit worried about not being able to actually use my waterfront property because they'll all be taken by people that have multiple deeds and spent $1,000+ on the game.

This month has focused entirely on polish so who knows. I thought that the game was pretty fun for a while, then they changed stuff that I didn't like (incredibly unrefined compared to what they had earlier) so hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised. I'm only getting 40FPS in the cities with really bad microstutter from assets loading in on my 1080 GTX. Sure, I'm running at 3440x1440 but I can do ARMA 3 @ 4K and get 100+FPS so this is bullshit. I'm moving the game to my SSD to see if that changes things, will report back. Been playing the newest build for the last hour (offline) and it looks better, performs better, plays better. I think there's finally fun to be had with this. I'll try to get enough gold to start up a guild (25,000) tomorrow when the servers go online.

When this game was kickstarted I missed the opportunity to invest on it. Simply because it was richard garriot and it looked a lot like ultima... A couple of years later I tried the game in the form of a demo, and it made me think if this game had come out back when UO was the poo poo, it would have been GOTY or close at least. But at the time I played it, it made me cringe. It's been now a couple of years since that time, and I the ads made it look like the game was launching or at least that is how i interpreted it. Anyways, because I have <More money, than Sense>, I went ahead thinking in 24 hrs id request a refund. To my surprise this time around I have been enjoying the aspect of the game. Like I said it's rough, but if you stick this lump of coal up your rear end in two weeks you will have a diamond, meaning the game grows on you. I have been enjoying the questing and dungeon questing aspect of the game. I think if you have it on your account you should try it. Playing the game with other people is pretty fun... I highly recommend it... Day one report: Had a really rough start, started me off with bow skills for some reason, detrained them all while replacing the skills. Might end up being a stealthy holy/chaos paladin using polearms, loads of fun. One of the passives is increasing polearm range (this is the maximum distance).  To compare, here's the maximum distance for sword and board plebs

Just popping in to remind everyone that despite everyone saying it's "launching", the only thing that is launching is a promise we won't wipe your characters. The game isn't yet content complete at all and will not be for some time. If you want to hop on and mess around with the done parts such as the sandbox aspects, community, and building a trailer park, that's great! But calling it "launched" makes me drink heavily, and my liver would appreciate you not doing that. Thanks, you're swell!

So in the path of courage tutorial, Battle of Highvale, this healer asks me to escort him to the dying knight. Naturally he doesn't follow me. I guess the sign saying the area is still under development means it. I hope that isn't important I guess. e: I can't even exit Highvale, every time I go into Novia the game crashes on the loading screen. Done this three times in a row.
