Well, KOF 12/13's sprites started life as 3D models in the first place (admittedly with months of pixel-art re-touching after the fact) so it wouldn't be completely from scratch, especially if, again, they imitated all the crazy poo poo Guilty Gear's doing.

RGB Classic Games is a great site for old shareware game downloads, as well as the occasional full version that's been legally freed by the original authors. And of course there's GOG for a lot of the Apogee stuff!

I'm kind of surprised by how little of Epic's pre-Unreal stuff is still legally attainable at this point! They have some great old games like Epic Pinball and Jazz Jackrabbit, but up until recently the only way to buy them online was as the original physical media (floppy disks!!) via mail order from Tim Sweeney's dad.

I haven't played Evil Within, but it uses an Id Tech engine so it probably crumbles into dust and/or turns into a pumpkin after midnight if you have an ATI card.

Rendering is typically okay for just cutting clips together, but After Effects stuff really makes me wish I sprang for an i7 CPU instead of an i5.
