Kinda your fault for not paying attention, but I sympathize. I'm not particularly impressed with the way Beamdog chooses to sell these games.

Beamdog didn't even want to release on Steam because of the cut that Valve takes from every Steam transaction. Plus there was some contractual hiccup, apparently now fixed, that required the Steam version to get routed through Atari. Beamdog only begrudgingly released on Steam when they realized that people refused to buy the game through the app store or their own proprietary platform.

So much of BG1's audio was just goofy. Khalid's Chia ad, Xzar and Jaheira breaking the fourth wall outright. And the dialogue choices contained much more "ye" and "thou" than subsequent games.

Whenever I see the silly script of BG1 I'm reminded of how long ago the game came out. Only a couple games back then put a lot of effort into their writing.

I picked up Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition recently and I'm generally pretty happy with it, but during my last BG1 playthrough I installed a mod that made the world map look like this, and I can't for the life of me remember what it's called. Does anyone know where to find it, and if so, is it BG:EE-compatible?

This reminds me that I never go to the farmlands outside Baldur's Gate. Is there anything of note there?

Nope. The 1.2 patch for BGEE isn't even out for iPad yet and that comes first.

With a six-character party, you need to do most of the original game and at least Durlag's Tower to reach the xp cap. Durlag's Tower gives a lot of xp.

If you want to farm xp, maybe try resting in the ankheg dungeon south of the Baldur's Gate bridge?

There are a couple of permanent stat-boosting tomes around the city. Intelligence is in the top-floor library of one of the city mages, I think a wisdom tome is afforded for an Umberlee temple quest, and the dexterity tome is in a container at the thieves' guild

Good items (which are good for BG but do not carry over into BG2) come from the Umberlee quest in the quote above, a mage's house in the southwest portion of the city, the boat brothel in the south center of the city, an inn in the northwest of the city, and another brothel behind an inn in the northeast of the city.

I just picked up BGEE on the iPad and played through the tutorial. Am I missing where the abilities and spells names are listed? I just see runes with icons that I don't know what they are.

On the main screen, use the question mark icon towards the bottom left, by the quick save and camp icons. If you're in the spell books, unfortunately you need to fill up the memorized spells for that level and then press, hold, and release on an icon to get the spell description.

Anyone else playing on iOS noticing weird bugs? For example, I can never scroll down to view item descriptions in the identify menu or scroll the item list, so I have to rearrange stuff to be able to identify which sucks.

Another thing, is it possible to view a list of the status effects on party members? The icons show but if you don't know what the icon is you're outta luck as far as I can tell.

The 1.2 patch on iOS broke scrolling in merchant screens, so that scrolling either goes far too fast or not at all. In the identify screens, tap the up and down arrows on the scrollbar.

Export from the character screen and it should then let you import into BGEE2.

That is it. You have to do a fresh export, i.e. characters you have already exported won't carry over to BG2. If you need to move over an already exported character, start a new game with that character and then export it again.

What's your strenght score? The shadows drain strenght with their attack, they could theoretically kill you with it if they get you down to 0 STR.

Turns out this is a known and widespread bug on the iPad version. Werewolves insta-kill instead of being harmless until attacked.

This is insane. How did Beamdog miss a game-breaking bug--you can't leave the tent until the quest is over--that happens across an entire platform on the very first quest in the game?

I'm up to Throne of Bhaal in my current trilogy playthrough and this part is always a disappointment. It's completely linear and you have barely any time to use all the great gear you are upgrading. The best part of Throne of Bhaal is that it lets you play through BG2 with the extra content from Watcher's Keep and with the xp cap removed.

So I've decided to start a playthrough of Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition and the variability of the kind of main character you can create is almost completely overwhelming. "Oh wow, that's a pretty big list of classes, well okay whatever let's just go with a mage hooooly crap each class choice has an entire submenu of kits."

Is there a good starting guide for Baldur's Gate I and II that details in real terms how each kit will feel to play and how viable each kit is for a main character?

Mage kits that aren't wild mage or sorcerer are conceptually the same: you get extra spells per day in exchange for not being able to cast spells from one or more schools of magic. The kind of specialist that you are determines which schools you can't cast from; no more. That said, read the link in the above post. BG can be overwhelming if you go in knowing nothing.

Whenever I needed CHA, which is really just for shopping, I put the ring on. When I was done, I took the ring off. There is no need for CHA in BG2.

Even more absurd, a mage can combine the ring with a friends spell for an effortless 24 CHA.

I'd choose a fighter/cleric over a fighter/druid, even though it means giving up iron skins, because of the excruciating druid xp barrier at levels 13-14. You won't get over that hump until you have three million druid xp which is six million character xp.

1st playthrough - fighter until end game
2nd playthrough - immediate mage dual-class at start
3rd playthrough - unstoppable war god

Neat.

It's kind of cool but mostly a novelty. If you're only doing "new game+" for the character development you might as well get an editor and add the stats (BG1) or xp (BG2).

No, just to learn 9th level spells. This is why you can min-max a mage by going low on int and using potions when you need to learn spells. But just because you can do it doesn't mean it's fun. I would never recommend anyone skimp on int as a mage. If you're going to munchkin that hard you might as well just edit your stats.

If you manage to hit Demogorgon 10 times in a row, he is going to die anyway. The problem with Demogorgon is that he summons like a million loving things into the arena and has a zillion refreshing spell protections.

I'm sure an int drain kill would work, but if you got that to work, there are probably a bunch of other ways that would've been less stressful.

Yeah, this guy is right. Demogorgon is squishy once you get past his protections. If you have two characters with the striking wands hit him with pierce magic and breach, and then have a couple warriors immediately go into greater whirlwind, he'll be dead before he can do more than summon a marilith.

The Nameless One is kind of a mix of fighter and mage/thief because he keeps his best THAC0, his weapon proficiencies, and all his hp when he switches classes. He may even keep his attacks per round; I don't remember exactly. And the disadvantages of mages in most games--no armor and limited weapon choices--aren't in Torment because there is no armor and all the best weapons are usable by mages. All of this makes mage the most powerful class.
