You've got to get some Propaghandi up in here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbBlnFtb8W4quote:When the credits finally roll for this, the worst story ever told, don't bother sifting through the names for yours or anyone you know. Unless they were by chance a shepherd king, a virgin birth, a resurrection, a messianic prince or some such childish thing. You can storm the edit suite or move to block its theatrical release, but I think we can safely guarantee that there will be no revisions to the script made on behalf of a supporting cast(e). Because history exalts only the pornography of force-that of murderers and psychopaths (the rest of us, of course, stricken from the narrative wholesale: a back drop to the tale)-as we, the two-bits, are ushered on and swiftly off this stage with the jawbones of asses. No stirring curtain call for the masses. No floral bouquet. No breaking of legs. No recurring role. No artistic control. And so in these days, in this terminal phase, it's all left to chance. A piece of advice: if you're cast on thin ice, you may as well dance. Do what you feel you must, but as for me I was not put upon this earth to subjugate or serve. Some commentary: My deal is that I don't like much folk, rock and punk music which is often more political than dance, disco, pop and electronic music. These latter genres have tended more towards the apolitical. An exception in the latter category is electronic-industrial music, which has some similarities to punk. But the fact the pop and dance is generally more apolitical has occasionally lead to backlashes against it for being too at ease with the establishment. The "Disco Sucks" campaign had an element to this in the late 1970s among the genre's critics. But this is also unfair, I think. Pop and dance has often been in the crosshairs of social conservatives when these genres pushed racial and sexual boundaries. Some music critics have also asserted--with good evidence--that the backlash to disco was partly a reaction by white heterosexual punks and rockers to a cultural movement associated with blacks and gays. Pushing disco back into the closet was a means of reasserting white heterosexual cultural supremacy. This wasn't the entire reason for the backlash of course, the genre also helped eat itself, but the anti-disco mood did take on undeniably racist and homophobic forms. For exhibit below, a cartoon from a 1979 issue of Punk magazine in which disco fans are derided as "faggots." http://www.punkmagazine.com/vault/back_issues/16/16index.html Point being, it's time for some loving disco. A mid-2000s commentary on Britain and America's "special relationship": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dfdlG_5wuc This song, a *massive* hit in France and Quebec in 1991, tapped into Mitterrand-era ennui: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUQZZW2GrAA Not exactly pop but the Pet Shop Boys composed a soundtrack for Sergei Eisenstein's silent film The Battleship Potemkin (can you see I like the Pet Shop Boys?): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9d2mW3qGy58 Edit: gently caress it. One more because I love Mylene Farmer. Another thing about pop is that it's usually more innovative in the visuals than it is with the sound, and it's where more of the political commentary goes on. This video is another tribute to Eisenstein and has lots of blood, violence, Lenin, revolution, Marx and creepy Tsarist witches: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlTco8Yg1cY BrutalistMcDonalds fucked around with this message at 07:10 on Dec 5, 2013 |

Hi friends, thanks so much for all of your fabulously fantastic posts! It's so cool to have a thread dedicated to political music and I really appreciate all of your efforts to share some of your favorite political and D&D-esque tunes! I decided to make another video of myself singing one of my favorite political songs! This time I've made a video of myself singing "Hasta Siempre, Comandante" by Carlos Puebla. This is a famous and fantastic musical tribute to a great revolutionary hero, and I made a video of myself singing this song while staring lovingly at a finger puppet of Che Guevara so that I could pretend to be singing directly to Che Guevara himself! This is another a cappella rendition and I've uploaded the video to youtube. Be sure to watch the whole thing so that you can hear me say "oops" at the end! Here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dz9k80KX_0s And here are the lyrics, thanks to Wikipedia: Aprendimos a quererte desde la histórica altura donde el Sol de tu bravura le puso cerco a la muerte.
