The Life Zone is amazing. It ends with Satan being pro-life and an eternity of pregnancy being Hell and the disparity between what they're trying to say and what they're actually saying is baffling.

This sounds loving hilarious, I don't think an intentional satire could be more contradictory.

And crucifixion wasn't just something that happened to Jesus (a lot of people actually believe this).

Hell, a lot of people forget that there were two other guys being crucified with Christ that very same day, let alone that it was a fairly regular Roman execution practice.

But yes, if you thought Aronofsky's Noah stirred up some reactionary poo poo, just imagine a "non-religious Jesus" movie even being rumored in production. (Not that a historical/docudrama take would excise all religious considerations, of course that would be impossible, but that's how the radical knee-jerk reactions would go.)

This won't do well here, and will be only watched by the odd people who British people steadfastly try to avoid eye contact with in the street. American's always seem shocked to find out that the UK is statistically one of the least religious countries in the world for some reason.

Well, since they're not Catholics and they broke away from Catholicism, they obviously think that there's something wrong about Catholicism, right? And once you buy that, why not say that the "thing wrong" is that Satan is pulling some strings?

Mostly because none of Martin Luther's 95 Theses were "I think Beezlebub is pulling the Pope's strings," pretty sure.

I strongly suggest you avoid I'm not Jesus mommy, which is free on Hulu and lurking innocently in the horror movie listings! It takes so long to get to the soulless-evils-of-science Chick Tract moralizing that you get lulled into a false sense of security that you're just watching a SyFy-level B-movie about cloning Christ gone awry. A subtle but distinct difference.

I really like that they named the main guy christian white, who represents the typical white christian. I mean come on, how lazy is that.

Lazy yet refreshingly honest, essentially an admission that Kirk Cameron sees himself as a member of a threatened minority.

Domestic Discipline (DD) marriage is one in which one partner is given authority over the other, and has the means to back up that authority, usually by spanking. The application and practise of DD in each marriage is as unique as the individuals who make up that marriage. There is no "One Ring of Power" in the Domestic Discipline world, to which all DD couples must bow; no singular path to "true DD enlightenment". What works well for one DD couple may not be a good fit for another marriage. Therefore, you may see many different suggestions espoused on this site and elsewhere.

The gender-neutral language in this description is priceless, as if any male participant in this scheme would let a woman hold power over him.

They're generally known as Catholics.

For some reason this reminded me of Catholic Sunday school, and the closest thing we ever saw to a "Christian film" was Leap of Faith with Steve Martin and Debra Winger. And one time the discussion leader (I really can't even call them "teachers", it was a pretty informal group talk format) showed us the scene from Amadeus where Salieri reveals that his envy for Mozart's talent ran so deep that he cursed God for wasting it on such a foppish idiot, threw his crucifix in a fire and said "now you and I are enemies".

Yeah, papists are pretty much in league with Satan.

Ahh.... So what you're saying is that it's a bad movie filled with logical inconstancies.

Even worse, the logical inconsistencies are intentional and exist to reinforce the evangelical persecution complex. They don't want to know how it really works, it's easier to see the world in this adversarial manner instead.

The paradox at the heart of evangelical cinema is that it's effectively bad on purpose, but the purpose is ostensibly to spread the Good News. I don't believe it's actually possible to create a non-Biblical narrative that would both satisfy its target audience and appeal to a broader audience, no matter how well it was produced or acted.

I assume her general biographical facts and reasonably corroboratable parts like "ran a youth church group" and "wrote about God a lot in a journal" are true. But yeah, I'm sure most if not all of the wishful-thinking stuff in her dad's book about knowing she was going to die and her last words and all are a sad (but understandable on his part, I say not in contempt) effort to make meaning out of tragedy that's maybe being exploited here.

The cascading logic lapses in this premise are pretty great.

This is Tribulation with Gary Busey and it was the first time I learned about the Rapture; I was still Catholicish at the time and actually thought the movie was some ghastly caricature of Christianity made by people who weren't Christian, since early on in the movie a character says "it's called The Rapture and every Christian in the world believes it".

By his standards of who's a true Christian and who's papist reptilian Devil-worshiper, they do.
