If you think that's dumb, just search youtube for "Interstellar Trailer Reviews". People will literally record themselves watching their computer monitors while the *entire* trailer plays, so you can watch their face for 2:30, then tell you how awesome it was (while hedging and giving you a nuanced account of their various experiences with each Nolan film).

Zero hope here. Zimmer and most other big name composers has been repeating a few max volume horn section notes for almost a decade and calling it a theme song. Inception was like a parody of this trend: BRAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH. *strings hook* BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH. *strings hook* aaaaaand repeat ad infinitum.

Did you see 12 Years a Slave? It's completely different.

In Zimmer's own words:

Hans Zimmer posted:

Composer Hans Zimmer, who scored Nolan's Batman film trilogy, is scoring Interstellar. Zimmer and Nolan plan to move away from the trilogy's scores and to come up with a unique one. Zimmer said, "The textures, the music, and the sounds, and the thing we sort of created has sort of seeped into other people's movies a bit, so it's time to reinvent. The endless string [ostinatos] need to go by the wayside, the big drums are probably in the bin."[40] Zimmer also said that Nolan did not provide him a script or any plot details for writing music for the film and instead gave the composer "one page of text" that "had more to do with [Zimmer's] story than the plot of the movie".[41]

And the reviews are mixed (64% on Rotten Tomatoes)...wow. First mixed reviewed film of Nolan's career if it stays this way.

The Prestige has mixed reviews.

One of the bonus tracks from the OST got out somehow;

Very interesting.

Still sounds like Zimmer, just with different orchestration. Pretty cool though.

Is there a good FAQ somewhere for this film? I hate to keep bringing up questions that appear every five pages about the over-arching concepts in the film.

edit: For instance, why do the future-humans have the causal loop open basically at the edge of Earth's survivable window, instead of creating more breathing room for exploration by buying the past more time? Also, it's made clear that Cooper's abilities vis-a-vis the tesseract are based on gravitational waves- are we to assume that the future-humans are able to do all kinds of things that would perhaps make things "easier" for Earthlings in a superficial sense, but that they need to keep most of the tricks in the bag, for fear of screwing something up? Are the wormhole/tesseract carefully considered as a way of basically threading the needle?

This is a really good video that explains just how insane Cooper's maneuver is when he joins the scout to the Endurance on his way off the ice planet.

Any kind of exposition that a character makes about her own or anyone else's motivations is always pretty lame. It shows that the director couldn't make the same point without words. It's kind of like explaining a joke. It may be true, but it's really boring.

After all, Shakespeare was a huge chump.
