I thought maybe it would have been more interesting if they'd stumbled into war due to the well meaning but disastrous actions of the underlings on both sides. Yeah, I was disappointed that his gratitude to Caesar for freeing him apparently didn't amount to much. I would have liked to see more internal conflict between what he thought was right, his feelings towards Caesar, and his desire for power. I would have happily given up some of the time spent with the humans to have room for that.
