My year has started off wonderfully with a friend arguing on facebook that married heroes don't sell books, so it was okay that DC didn't let Batwoman get married. When I countered with the FF, Spider-Man (pre OMIT) and Superman (pre nu52) he responded that all those books dropped readers after the marriage. Does anyone have actual numbers for this?

He did concede that MAYBE Batwoman would have bucked this trend after I pointed out that it's one of the most high profile LGBT books being published.

Since the holiday and being out of town I haven't picked my books up in two weeks and I'm thinking of taking this occasion to purge most of my purchasing habits. Maybe dropping down to just Hawkguy and 1 or 2 really good image/independent books.

I did this for DC when they did villain month and it was wonderful. There really aren't many, if any, Marvel books I'm reading out of habit instead of enjoyment, though. Same with Image and the other indies except, maybe, Walking Dead.

Well, Nova is poo poo and Young Avengers, while great, is a love it or hate it kind of book. Now, if he hates Hawkguy then there's no hope.

\/\/\/I tried Nova again with the issue 100 special after seeing a bunch of stuff in the Funny Panels thread. It is still bad and I hate the art.

Nope, that single issue hit a different annoying teen hero trope on every page. It's fair to say that I'm still annoyed that Dick Ryder is in limbo with this new kid flying about and the Nova Corps no where to be found, but I gave it an honest shot based on the FP thread and goon acclaim.

It's probably not as bad as the Loeb issues (I didn't even give those a shot), but it is still not good.

Being a Wildstorm fan around 1998-2002 is the bummerest experiences I had as a comic fan, because it was seeing so much potential rise... and then die on the vine shortly after the sale to DC. It made me a lot more jaded about things like cancellations and mismanagement. A lot of it wasn't necessarily the fault of the people involved - it was a hard time for comics - but it was hard to see a company doing some groundbreaking stuff in the world of capes and then be reduced to The DC Try Out Book.

There so much good stuff coming out of Wildstorm at the time. Wildcats 3.0 remains one of my favorite comics. I'm going to have to dig them out and reread.

As much as I criticise it, what he did with Avengers was pretty amazing. It's not groundbreaking in the sense that it wasn't anything particularly new, but it was really fresh (for a time, at least), and really generated interest in what was an incredibly flagging series for years (I suppose arguably the Busiek/Perez run did the same thing, although to be honest I flipped through the first issue of that a while ago and it didn't really grab me).

Already chock-full of Judge Dredd and 2000 AD books in general lately, so I've got those covered. I guess I mean more Mad Max, Fallout 3/New Vegas or even like Cholly and Flytrap if you have read it. Small settlements of people and the weird poo poo they get up to. Noted the films though, I'm actually surprised I haven't seen A Boy and His Dog yet.

Also a quick Google search brought up a series called Wasteland which I'd heard of before but never looked in to. I'm seeing pretty middling reviews of it. The art does look nice.

Edit: I just realized you mentioned Wasteland in your post. My brain seen "out in the waste. Wasteland" and stopped there haha.

That sounds pretty refreshing actually. Will check it out!

It's book, not comic book and I actually recommend getting the audiobooks, but the Deathlands series is my guilty pleasure. Post apoc setting, mutants, secret science conspiracies and lots of fun violence. There's over 100 audiobooks for it. The first bunch are a bit gun porny, not anywhere near as bad as patriot fiction, but I pretty much don't need to know how much the guns the protagonists are using weigh and poo poo. The sex scenes are pretty laughable too, thankfully those drop away as the books go on. They're trash, but they are fuuuuuuuuun trash.

Has Mark Andreyko always been a lovely writer?

It was extremely rushed and came to some bizarre conclusions and EVERYONE bar Batman (grr I'm always moody is hard to gently caress up, to be fair) was out of character and Batman is the one to save the day?
