I have an Ultralite AVB on the way :toot: Had ordered a MK4, but the vendor said MOTU has had supply issues for a certain part and they're not able to produce more. That explains why it's listed as backordered everywhere, and not even listed on Sweetwater's site anymore.

Three dumb questions:
  • Will I have any issue if I plug synths into the hi-Z inputs on the front of the device, or will I need some sort of adapter?
  • For that matter, can I plug synths or anything else into the XLR mic ins? I don't plan on ever recording vocals, just synths and maybe a guitar on rare occasions.
  • I have a Komplete Audio 6 with SPDIF I/O, and the Ultralite has SPDIF I/O as well. Can I use the KA6 as basically a preamp to plug two more synths into the Ultralite via SPDIF?

Hey all, my son is starting out on recording on his windows desktop. He has the power and SSD space, a digital piano and an electronic drum set so I was thinking of getting him a package.

Is stuff like this a good starting point

I know i could ship around and get individual stuff cheaper but I like having everything plus software in one box. I saw they also have presonus ones and such.

Any guidance is great, he’s a beginner but smart and will do the work.

Unless he needs the mics and headphones (both of which appear to be cheap throw-ins), I'd go with something like this:

https://www.americanmusical.com/kali-audio-lp-6-monitors-with-focusrite-scarlett-2i2-bundle/p/KAA-LP6SCARLETT-PAK

The monitors are better, the interface is well-regarded, and you save some money.
