nwin posted:So, with Walker resigning, he still could face jailtime, correct? I just read a few pages ago in this thread that Frank might be able to pardon him from this. Is that true? I wouldn't be at all surprised if Frank pardons Walker, even if it doesn't fit into any long-term personally beneficial plans I do believe that he respects the office of the President enough not to want to see a former President go to jail, even if he despises the man personally (or at least his weakness). Frank's gained the Presidency now, but he gained that and the Vice Presidency before that by playing political games. His big test now if whether he can actually win an election or even get votes outside of his constituency. His very first act being settling a hostile dispute between China and Japan is sure to be spun as an example of America being respected and feared on the global stage.

I felt so terrible for Walker. Seems like a good guy who is surrounded by Vipers. When he started figuring out what Frank was doing, I was almost rooting for the guy. Now i've been thinking how this could all come back to bite Frank in the rear end tho. That letter he gave Walker and ended up burning? He never checked the content of the enveloppe before he threw it in the fire. I wonder if the writers might come back with this as a plot twist at some point. Maybe Walker actually kept it, or had a copy or something like that...

Everything bad that happened ended up being non-issues so far.

Oh that is easy to explain. The show features a very unreliable narrator: Frank himself.

With Season 3 presumably only a few months away, there are some "kind of sort of maybe spoilers" going around based on what actors have said. Notably, even the actors aren't sure if Stamper is dead.

Like Dalael said earlier, I too want to see Frank struggle. He's so competent that everything seems to be seamless. I have a feeling this will all change this season, or else this really will be a series of FU's rise to global domination.

As the scene plays out, one of the tubes is activated and the Stamper clone wakes up. He reached for a box, grabs a cell phone from it and cooly explains he a bad night. Preferably using a bludgeoning pun. Or just go full and bring him back, acknowledge he did die, then never bother explaining the how.

Stamper was not a good person but like Frank, he's an interesting character for the purposes of seeing how a pragmatic sociopath operates with other likeminded sociopaths. What I love about this show is that Frank seems to be the only full-blown psychopath. Everyone else in his employ seem to be under his influence or willing to submit to it, yet show flashes of sentimentality here or there. Claire obviously loved Galloway (despite not hesitating to destroy him) and broke down for the first time after failing to pass the sexual assault legislation for Megan Hennessey. Stamper is a different beast in that he's possessive and manipulative, but he's not against showing what seems to be genuine regard for others (giving his ten year pin to the casino waitress). It's fun to pick these people apart and figure out what actions are directly the result of Frank's corruption and what they would implicitly do regardless. Or whether they just all came together because they were like-minded individuals. This is a show where I would love an origin story or two.

New S3 Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sU9QTLXYCCc Looks like Russia will be a big deal, with Underwood squaring off against a Putin analogue named Petrov (Russian flags aplenty, protestors wearing "STOP PETROV" shirts). Also, lots of on-the-nose shots of Frank and Claire being physically distant.

The one thing House of Cards has always lacked is a character with as much eye-drawing screen presence as Spacey. Underwood commands every room he's in a little too much. I'm confident Lars Mikkelsen is up to the task.
