Talking about Pocket Camp is fine here, but there is a dedicated thread for it right here. Animal Crossing: New Leaf (Tobidase Doubutsu no Mori [Animal Forest: Jump Out!] in Japan) is the latest release in Nintendo's Animal Crossing series, released exclusively for the 3DS console. What in the hell is Animal Crossing? Here's the pitch: You're a child of indeterminate age, leaving home for some reason to start a new life in Buttville, Dicktown, or Dongtopia. When you arrive, you find that the town you're going to be living in is occupied entirely by anthropomorphic animals, and are quickly indebted for large sums of cash by a seedy raccoon, who sets you up with a home to live in with little or no input from you in the process, and essentially forcing you to scrounge for cash in a town with no open jobs by selling garbage and fish. That's the set up for Nintendo's Animal Crossing series, and in case you aren't already familiar with the games, things get a lot weirder than that. Gameplay in Animal Crossing is a light, casual affair that tends to defy genre classification. It is, essentially, a life simulator. There's no real point to the game, you just wander around your town talking to the inhabitants, decorating your home, enduring horrible puns, and paying off your debts to ol' Tom Nook. The game runs on your system clock, and as such time passes realistically. On a day-to-day level, this means that late at night all of your shops will be closed and your friends will be asleep in their homes. On a more global level, there are holidays held on particular days (both matching up with real-world holidays like Christmas and Halloween, and game-world original holidays and events, such as the Fishing Tourney). I have heard it described as "Zen, in video game form." It fits. So what's new in New Leaf? Animal Crossing is one of those series which often gets flak for being "just the same thing over and over," and for the most part, that's true. Fans of the series can appreciate the changes from one game to the next, some big and some small, that make the experience more enjoyable, but the scenario has essentially been the same since the original. New Leaf represents quite possibly the largest change of formula the series has ever seen. Obviously, there are the usual upgrades - better graphics, more items, more clothing customization options, new stores and characters, and so on. This time, adding to the bizarre nature of the plot's setup, you are declared Mayor of the town as soon as you arrive. This isn't just a formality, either. As Mayor, you make decisions about the town's layout and issue ordinances that effect the behavior of the townsfolk, the prices of items sold in your shops, and various other aspects of your town. I'm a returning fan. What else is new!? Aside from that one major change, there are a number of other improvements and additions to the game:
Welcome Amiibo update is live NOW New copies of the game (physical and download) will come with this update pre-installed. Those who already have the game can download the update for free! Here's what's new:
This looks stupid. Is this some sort of kiddy game? Sort of! The Animal Crossing games aren't necessarily geared toward small children, but it has a definite family-friendly air to it, and your player character has the appearance of a child. The gameplay, being fairly light, is graspable for children, certainly, but there's plenty there for older gamers. The game's real strength, in my opinion, comes from sharing the world with your family. It's truly a game anyone can play and enjoy, and not just in the silly marketing way that you might see a movie tie-in game claiming. That said, it's definitely a niche title. A lot of people will be put off by various aspects of the game, including the light gameplay elements, the required time management aspects, and the family-friendly atmosphere. A bloody action game, this is not. Silver Falcon fucked around with this message at 16:25 on Nov 9, 2017 |

We've got a Fashion Bash going on! FASHION To Participate in the Fashion Bash: 1. In your own town, grab a Hat, an Accessory, a Top, Pants, Socks, and Shoes. Buy six pieces of wrapping paper. I would recommend not wrapping the items until you're ready to drop that specific item. A wrapped shirt looks a lot like wrapped pants. 2. At the train station, there will be small piles of wrapped clothing, sorted by type. Fashion Bashers take one item from each pile and put on whatever they get.You are now High Fashion Superstar. Take a picture. Post it for everyone. For bonus points, take your picture in the photo-booth for lasting memories. 3. Go to each pile, wrap the item you brought with you, and drop it for the next visitor. If there are too many pants, don't drop the one you brought. Same for accessories. 4. Bonus points: Get your hair done. Set the slider to max formal, and use the bottom-most answer every time. This will give you a Random and Very Fashionable Style. We need a spreadsheet! For reference: My name is Bina. I have a town named Ritchbee. My FC is 0533-9994-4230. My town's villagers that you may see pop up in yours are Bina. My old town was Bartaton, and it has been officially deleted. For those of you who are new to ACNL, Don't be a friggin' dick, okay? Thanks. Now, another note for newbies is- Best Friending anyone on the spreadsheet. It makes it a whole lot easier to communicate if you are away from the computer, and you don't have to be in someone else's town to talk to them via messaging in ACNL. If anyone visits your town, make sure to friend them right away! -------------------------------------------------------------------- GlitterPoison, I think I left my tools in your town. I am free for the rest of the day, because I am waiting for my soup to finish cooking, so I can get in bed, and feel like uber poo poo. Internet Kraken posted:Wait what's this about grass wearing down? Does grass actually change in this game depending on how much you walk on it? Yeah it does. Apparently for the last few AC games it's been doing this but in New Leaf apparently it decays slower since it did it too fast in older games. Rain and snow helps to speed up grass 'recovery'. Nothing you can do can help grass grow back except by not walking on it I think.

Giant Boy Detective posted:Yes, and it's awful. Your town will turn into a giant mud ball if it gets walked on enough. Huh, that seems really dumb given there's no way to easily make paths. Then again I've never noticed it so maybe it only matters if you trample the same area over and over all day or something. EDIT: gently caress I can't stop noticing all the dirt near the bridges now This is awful. I know they changed some things with patterns in this game, can you have them seamlessly line up with curved surfaces or can they still only be squares? I never bothered making paths because they didn't look natural at all when made up of only squares. Internet Kraken fucked around with this message at 01:58 on Apr 6, 2014 |

I'm actually really happy with all my neighbors, which is a first for the series despite playing it since the gamecube version. The worst I can say about some of them is that they're a bit boring. I kind of want Bubbles to move just because she's not that interesting, wears an ugly shirt, and has her house in a lovely place. That's nothing compared to when I played the game as a kid and spent ages sending trash to Oxford in the mail to get him to leave. I hated that jerk so much Chieves posted:As as this sounds, this really turned me off from the last few games. It absolutely drove me insane that they did that. you could fix the cityfolk grasswear with a savegame editor, but there isn't such a thing for the 3DS version, yet. Once a month or so I'd pop my SD card into my computer and just select "heal grass". I just think Rodney's creepy. He has a...rapey-looking face; no seriously. He also sends me poetry all the time... ...and my girlfriend edited his phrases, so now when he greets you he yells at the top of his lungs, and ends his sentences with 'misogyny'.
