I think I've been the one advocating for the benefits of social progress that we've experienced in the past few decades. How is your gender and ethnicity not being important not social progress? Should we hire people based on their skin colour and genitals?

Social progress is not persisting in believing that there is no difference in spite of all evidence to the contrary. That is barely removed from believing that there are differences but that they aren't a problem.

Most people don't live in the state of a permanent class war, examining their every step through the prism of political consequences, hth

Regressive people are usually perfectly capable of functioning in society because of that.

So what do you want exactly?

Traditional gender roles are not good enough.

Complete equality in every sense of the word is also not good enough.

What would make you happy?

Traditional gender roles are not good enough, and to a very significant degree are what we still have.

Complete equality is what I want, but I can plainly see that we do not even remotely have it yet. It would be a good start to achieve that. From then, there is much to be desired when it comes to the general wellbeing of all people. I might be happy if that was also fixed.

Because men treat women more softly than they do other men? If I would converse with women the same way I talked to my male colleagues there would be a lot of crying in the office every day. I don't really think you want complete equality. I think you want special treatment. There is nothing wrong with that, because the majority of men love making women happy.

So... not the same, but equal. If it makes sense.

Saxony has some trouble with a "problem wolf" right now. The wolf has lost any fear of humans and has been seen following around people, looking all shifty and like he is up to no good. Once he was sighted sleeping at the fence of a refugee center!

The wildlife ministry has put out an APB on the wolf and was looking for it all day with a plane. Turns out that he has a transmitter implanted and it's strong enough to be picked up from the plane, so they just circled around different forests all day with it. I'll keep the thread informed on any new developments, but they probably stopped the search for the night, because it's too dark to see the forests.

1. Wage gap: women choose jobs that pay less and stay out of the labour market for longer. Compare similarly educated men and women at the same position and the wage gap is within the margin of error. In some countries there are certain demographics where women outearn men (total earnings, not counting any of the details). Absolute bollocks. In most Western countries it is *illegal* to pay women and men a different wage for the same job.

2. Underrepresentation of women: interesting one. There is no legal, societal of economic factor that stops women from pursuing the same jobs as men. Personal evidence: at my largest client's company three of the four major positions are held by women. If women don't want to pursue certain careers or positions, that's not oppression, that's their choices.

3. Women are more likely to be a victim of sexual violence, but men are more likely to be a victim of any other violent crime (the rate is generally about 3:1).

4. Are you speaking about the objectification of women? Because if you ask any women that get "objectified" (models, entertainment industry people, porn stars etc) if they are bothered by it they say hell no, that's my paycheck you are talking about. In any case men get objectified just the same. People want to see beautiful people in ads, TV shows and music videos. That's just the way it is. We appreciate physical attractiveness.
