ya so DEAR RICHARD letter and all, but is there any way to get off the J4G list? Having played in 3 or 4 goon guilds in different mmos over the years I know better than to try to argue about whether or not you're a spy right when someone calls you a spy, but it's been a while and uh, i'm not a j4g.

I joined the reddit fleet instead and they're ok so if it's "no you're branded j4g for life" it's not a huge deal, but i'd rather play with goons.

There isn't a checklist, no.

You can start by posting in something other than a Star Trek related thread and showing your ability to integrate with the Greater SA Community.

Just a heads up for any pure PVE'er in this game: It's tuned for those utter fuckup pubbies to be able to complete. If your core BoFF skill build is good then your actual ship gear is largely irrelevant. Don't stress over getting specific gear at first - it makes it easier but its in no way required to still excel at all the PVE content.

What I'm saying is don't be afraid to use mk XI white space lasers until you're space rich if you don't PVP. It really won't stop you beating all the pubbies in a DPS race regardless.

Of course if you PVP then disregard all this because having best in slot everything is really loving important there.

So I'll admit I haven't really been keeping track of the 9.5 changes because I don't really need anything - so for those of us who already have all the endgame gear, traits and doffs we could possibly want (for the moment) are there any sidegrades or notable gimmicks of note in the new crafting grind?

Because I don't see a pressing need to swap out anything I already have.

We may see a return of the classic 3xDHC, 1xDBB escorts. Since the drain is gone you'll be wanting BO3.

Actually you may want to limit yourself to just 2xDHC and whack on a torpedo with a high yield as well. May as well go all out for the punch through combo.

I guess while we're on the topic, the auto-crit favors CritD tactical consoles too.

Best ship for this? The 5 tactical console fleet Ar'Kirf. You also get the added bonus of a battle cloak and a hanger.

When they first introduced the fleet ship system they buffed the galor & bugship to their current level.

I would be amazed if they didn't buff all lockbox ships to tier 6 level when Delta comes out. After all they want to keep selling lock boxes, right?

We are all looking at probably re-purchasing all our space & ground gear again. Maybe there will be some sort of upgrade mechanic? I doubt it - people spending money to shortcut in-game resource gathering is absolutely part of their business model.

Look at all these people coming out of the woodwork because of the excitement related to another 10 levels to grind.

Anyway let me summarize all the pubbie feedback in the metagame feedback thread:
http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1188601

It's like this. Every pubbie is loving amazing at video games and internet spaceships and knows best. Whenever they die to a poo poo tier NPC its because they weren't healed enough by their other team mates or because the tank didn't draw aggro and they died standing in fire. IN NO WAY did they die because they are, in fact, poo poo. How dare you even suggest such a thing! The nerve! :byodood:

Therefore, whatever shitbox they fly in game needs to be buffed, everything else needs a nerf and they are right and you are wrong because emotional language here. Don't even think of using maths to refute this because they alone know the TRUTH. Everything else is just a comical display of ignorance of how core game mechanics actually work. Also the holy trinity of WoW needs to apply to internet spaceships because reasons.

Remember, if you disagree with any of this you are in fact a troll, cyber-bully, space-racist, noob or some classification of bounder and/or scallywag. :tipshat:

A lot of this is ANGRY TRUTH AND JUSTICE because no matter what cryptic and/or PWE do regarding game balancing the simple fact is that pubbie immersion is still ruined because they can't be the one true Kirk flying the original Enterprise. Alone of course because other players in an MMO ruin the experience.

Cyberball 2072 posted:

Skimming over some of the good posts in that thread it seems to me that the game is in need of massive sweeping changes to make it anything near balanced or at the least flat out better (more variety is useful abilities.) In the old days this would be totally doable, even when it was for the worse or killed games like Star Wars Galaxies, there was always the nuclear option of just ripping the old busted up patchwork system out and replacing it with something more modern. In a game like this however, so many people, myself included have invested a lot of money into what they currently have, even if I didn't pay for the zen that bought all my stuff myself, someone paid money for that somewhere along the line and it feels like in this kind of environment, massive sweeping changes would just murder the game dead. (Which I guess it did in other examples too, nevermind.)

Well yes, game balance is utterly broken and that's the simple truth. The real question is: "Was there ever balance to begin with?"

No. :ssh:

It doesn't actually matter what they do because the fanbase is inherently and eternally unable to be pleased. Besides which its the same mob that travel to Las Vegas conventions regularly for a convention about a dead low-budget TV show. PWE can pretty much do what they want and they'll still fork out cash hand over fist. It's kind of like Games Workshop fans only the business model actually works for the digital age.

The whole metagame feedback thread is just a trap or a holding pen to contain the pubbie :spergin: until it spills over again, as it inevitably will. They don't give two fucks about what's going on in there but so long as the pubbies are sissy slap fighting each other about spaceships it gives the illusion of listening to the fans. gently caress the fans, they're terrible and deserve what they get :black101:

The level of self entitlement in this thread is truly epic:

http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1191001

"I'm willing to hold judgement on the new ship plans since I really don't know anything about what's going to happen, but I will warn you that the main reason I play this game at all is because of the actual Star Trek ships."

"Not the "Star Trek-ish" ships that have been invented for this game, but the actual ships from the shows. Even though I know they aren't the "best" in the game, I love my Ambassador, Galaxy-X, and D'Deridex. It gives me a giddy sense of joy to see my Warbird warping in, or move the camera around to see every angle as it glides through sector space."

He goes on for a while and ends with this masterpiece:

"TLDR: I like my ships, and I'm not going to abandon them. Don't try to make me, find a way to work with me."

Sorry I forgot the best part. His thread title? "A caution to the devs"

As for that talk about terrible cryptic ship models, one only has to look at the chimera to realize even smooth lines was hard for the old modelers.

Did you know the chimera was one of the failed Odyssey design contest entrants? Well it was. While it was modeled in game by Cryptic it was "designed" by someone else entirely.

http://vektorvisual.com/blog/2011/01/15/star-trek-online-design-the-next-enterprise-contest-entry/comment-page-1/

So basically the reason is looks retarded is that it was supposed to be a far larger ship (Odyssey sized) and when they shrunk it down to the pocket destroyer it now is it became a space guppy.
