Okay so I restarted playing this game again after about a two year break and joined some shithouse pubbie Fleet that cold-invited me. They have all the holdings upgrades and stuff but are totally nerdcore about letting people buy fleet crap and base it entirely around your contributions. I completely forgot that Starfleet Dental existed until this thread. Send me an invite to the channel (Saril@parttimehanyou) please! I'd like to get in with goons again. Also, registered on the wiki with the name Melchior. the Pixies fukken SUCKED fucked around with this message at 21:23 on Apr 23, 2014 |

I get all that but i made their first tier of promotions to be able to buy stuff and then they didnt promote me anyway because they were waiting for a scheduled promotion ceremony and i was like 'hoo boy...' Thanks for the invite all.

Regrettable posted:I use basically this but I take the points from threat control & put them in weapon performance. I must be a pretty cool dude cause I didn't even know it was a preferred layout & did it without a guide. Mine is pretty close to this in that I avoided any skill that 'enhanced abilities in sector space' or that involved batteries. People use batteries? I don't think I've ever done that. Has anyone else done the Peanut Labs surveys to earn Zen? It seems like a pretty shithouse way to get it, but if you're on a budget and have an excess of time and don't mind answering the same questions a billion times it's not bad I guess. If anyone else has any better suggestions I'd be willing to hear them!

Also another good question would be what's the best (least effort) to farm EC? I'm doing Qwark the Farmer in the foundry but it runs out of loot halfway through the mission.

I also saw 'tour the galaxy' as a potentially good source, but thats effort and a lot of clicking.

GornAgain & Butts had to explain muling boffs to me yesterday. What an incredibly obtuse mechanic. You can't drag them into mail attachments (although there's nothing presenting an error if you try) but you can trade them to other people. Odd.

If you get hit by those AND by the death star beams from the surrounding ships it's very easy to die. I kept thinking I was getting hit by gozer torps but apparently that's not the case. "Rift Collapse" is the thing that did a shitload of damage to me at least.

I was wondering what that was about. I suppose it all ties back to my initial experience in a pubbie fleet when joining back up again in that they had ridiculous amounts of hoobyboo pseudo dkp bullshit to even look at the vendor let alone buy anything. Even if you met their contribution levels (50k fleet marks before you were promoted to 'can buy stuff) you had to wait for their 'promotion ceremony' to be able to have unfettered access to fleet holdings. If you asked for access prior to that, they would actually demote you after you were finished buying stuff. I played wow in the heyday of 40-man raids and fairness and all that, and the above was even a bit much for me.

Then they released undine assault. Holy poo poo are they terrible at it. Everyone either splits up along every lane and dies, or the smart ones group and focus on one lane. But even that takes about 10-15 minutes per lane with a "good" group. Would you mind pm'ing me your fit? I've got a fedrom alt with one that I'm less than impressed with and I'm 100% sure it is because I've fit it shittily and I'm comparing it to the Fleet Assault Cruiser and am being disappointed. I'm glad the wiki is around otherwise I would barely have any sense of how things are supposed to work; the game levels you so fast and is so forgiving it's never quite necessary to learn how to fit anything for all 50 levels.

They're a complete nonissue for any NPC except Borg, and even then only occasionally. I'd say polarize hull is up over 66% of the time, and Omega takes care of the times that aren't.

I try my hardest not to experience third party ERP, but as I see it the whole reason these people are pissed is because they can't RP about lemonade giving them heartburn in Quarks for hours without something making their avatar dance (in a bar, no less)? And they're not willing to keep their ERP to ship bridges? I guess it's more fun to equate it to rape, huh.

Especially hilarious considering that they can't find RP reasons to go to a private place, but they also can not find reasons to dance. In a bar. With a disco ball above their head. I'm not even a roleplayer but wouldn't something along the lines of "Why don't we go someplace more private and continue our discussion?" serve that purpose? I mean I can see having bad rp sex on THE BRIDGE OF A STARSHIP to be a bit problematic, but maybe they're forgetting there are lower decks? gently caress in engineering, I mean REALLY.

A lot of these RPer's aren't captains of their own ships. They're merely slaves or residents who contract transportation services in exchange for uh, favors. Because doing this in an online cube-shooting game is totally a legitimate thing that is in no way weird at all and if you make fun of it you're going to be Godwin Law'd out of ESD.

Asimo posted:Honestly, the ground gear tends to be a lot better buy than the space lobi gear. You can get costume unlocks from the armor, and the weapons are all pretty good and have unique gimmicks. And you can just toss them on a bridge officer if you have regrets. The costume unlocks are only per character right? All the outfit boxes that have a description on the STO wiki seem to indicate its only an unlock for the character that opens it, which is kind of a bummer.

I'd still rather contribute to a vanity fleet but this is nice too! The patch notes thread is a great example of some of the worst the STO community has to offer, and a shining demonstration of why it seems like the devs troll the playerbase with disco balls. the Pixies fukken SUCKED fucked around with this message at 15:13 on Jun 5, 2014 |
