How good is that +17.3 Starship Targeting Systems on the Hydrodynamics Compensator?

Should we put babby's first endgame gear loadout at the front of the thread? By my understanding, when you first hit 50 and you're not into understanding how it works and more complex tactics, this is almost certainly what you're gonna start off with from the reps regardless of ship, and then people can ask for advice about the rest of the fleet consoles to fill it out with and we can all argue about +Neutronium vs Monotanium. Feel free to correct me.

[Gravimetric Photon Torpedo Launcher Mk XII] (if you want a torpedo)
[Kinetic Cutting Beam Mk XII [Dmg]x3]

[Assimilated Subtranswarp Engines Mk XII]
[Assimilated Deflector Array Mk XII]
[Dyson Regenerative Shield Array Mk XII]
[Elite Fleet Reinforced Warp Core Mk XII [SEP] [W->S] [SCap] [AMP] [SST]]
[Some Singularity Core I Have No Idea Here]

[Subspace Field Modulator] (reward from the mission "Skirmish")

[Console - Universal - Plasmonic Leech]
[Console - Universal - Assimilated Module]
[Console - Zero-Point Energy Conduit]
[Console - Universal - Nukara Particle Converter]

[Console - Tactical - Vulnerability Locator Mk XII [+YourEnergyType]] x All your tac slots.

There's a lot of guides up on the wiki all out of date and telling you to get the MACO bonus or the Omega set or all over the place who drat knows and it's all out of date.

I meant that more as a first thing to aim for as a generic gear build. (Point taken re: the Nukara console, though). Simply because the question's been coming up in chat quite a few times lately as newish people have been getting into the rep grind and asking what they'll be wanting to get from the various reps, and it might be better to point them to this rather than have a chaotic mess of things linked in chat or them going to find the outdated guides, which a few have.

What are the first things a person should buy with zen? I assume quality of life improvements like bank space and poo poo?

First thing is the Energy Cap Credit Increase. After that... probably the account bank, but for that I'd actually recommend subscribing for a month, which unlocks that and a bunch of other things permanently. After that, depends on what you're feeling you need. More characters? More boffs? More bank?

Also, if you have a KDF character, a Vandal destroyer so you can steal that sweet sweet plasmonic leech console.

Just by removing the bullshit barrier to entry of replicating pointless poo poo. It'd still be nice to have more reliable sources of Romulan and Tholian marks but at least farming the rep traits is doable with the space missions we get.

Hell, thanks to the daily bonus boxes and the Romulan mark doubling, the first Azure Nebula of the day will generally award you about 120 Romulan marks and the first CCE nearly as many Tholian. Keeping the marks you need coming in is a total breeze.

In fairness, the latter is more accurate to the movie. Specifically, an ugly over-engineered piece of poo poo. :pseudo:

True but it totally makes sense the Romulans would clean up the design when adapting it to mainstream use. I mean the original was a secretly jammed together one-off made by non-Romulan rebels, of course it looks like poo poo. (I mean really it makes zero sense that they put the design into production at all, but gotta have every canon design in STO!) Hell, when I saw the original low-poly one I thought that was the approach they'd taken.

I just kinda wish that one of the three variations had been along those lines, since they went to the effort of making three. Instead, speed holes.

Dammit, why must good things be stopped before they happen? Are the devs really not aware that dbb is near useless without a counterpart in the rear like dhcs have turrets? Ah well. As you point out though, you only need one arc array anyway to do a dbb setup on any sci boat.

I suspect it's because they're just slapping [arc] on normal beam arrays rather than making true beam turrets, so they're overpowered for their arc.
