Torturing small animals for fun can be a sign of some kind of psychological disorder, sociopathy or something. Now, if the kid was a reliable source of cheap squirrel meat and the torture was demonstrably making the meat cheaper, I'd let it slide.

If his practices are causing a rise in squirrel-borne illnesses in the community, then clearly something has to be done.

EVERYBODY who applies to Harvard is going to be at a top-100 high school. During the admissions process, that means you get put into the ho-hum file. You put your kid in a rundown school, though, they get a 4,0, and they do volunteer work, have some ideas, some independent research - they can write a motherfuckin cheque to any Ivy or better they like.

or they get a subpar education because the american school system punishes poor schools for being poor by taking away even more funding and giving it to rich schools

When fascists spread their word unhindered it creates a local environment where anyone who isn't straight and white is unsafe; because the general populace eats up anything blaming their problems on people who aren't like them.

The last person I knew who became homeless got there because they were kicked out of their residence for repeatedly engaging in screaming domestics with the mother of their child, threatening & being physically aggressive with other tenants, and putting out cigarettes on the walls. No one wants to live with that person.

All this horseshit does is make it harder for "good tenants" to get indoors. The others need psychiatric help, discussions about weeding out problem tenants miss the point

I mean, you do know how demanding and poorly paid those fields are, right? And then on top of that, how lovely and unrewarding it is to help the mentally ill and homeless. I'm married to a social worker who works with homeless and drug addicted youth. I'm proud of what she does, but it pretty much takes a saint to stay in that field unless they have no other choice. Saying "let's get more social workers" is hardly a practical solution.

Maybe we should pay the people doing the work that needs to be done more money
