Yeah it would, my flatmate has a 1996 4 cylinder wagon with the manual and it's still as dull as anything.

Bet you it was a hell of a lot quicker than my old work vehicle:

It had the non-turbo diesel which was impressively gutless (bear in mind the much more powerful turbo version only had 85hp)
