Och pish bawbag it’s the world cup again. After qualifying for the major tournaments in 90, 92, and 96 (we missed 94 but it was a poo poo world cup anyway and nearly as bad as the Olympics two years later. America must never be allowed to host a major international sporting event ever again) and narrowly missing out on qualification from the group stages every time, this could definitely be Scotland’s year to end our world cup hoodoo. We have a tough group again but I think Craig Brown’s tartan army could really pull it off this year. Being drawn in the opening match against Brazil may look daunting but who knows maybe we will surprise the world with a cheeky penalty or something, after that it’s Norway who we can probably sneak a draw against and Morocco who we should beat handily, can’t see how that one can go wrong. Even if we don’t make it past the group stage this time I am sure with the talent and experience this squad has we will keep qualifying for major tournaments just as regularly for the next 10-20 years at least. Anyway lets get an introduction to our brave boys. Goalkeepers Jim Leighton  Controversially picked ahead of Andy Goram which has led to him walking out of the squad. Jim is old as hell and plays for Aberdeen so I am not sure this is the best idea to be honest. We also have Neil Sullivan (Wimbledon) and Jonathan Gould (Celtic) to make up the numbers. Defenders Tom Boyd  Plays for some team in Ireland I think. Pretty solid at the back and who knows he might even bag a goal. Colin Calderwood and Colin “Braveheart” Hendry   Are both called Colin and play in England. We also have Tosh McKinnaly, David Weir, Matt Elliot, Christian Daily and Derek “I’m shite” Whyte filling out the squad. Midfielders John Collins  Adding some continental glamour to a squad that plays almost entirely in the British leagues. We all expect some big things from him. We also have the midfield paring of Craig Burley  and European Cup winner Paul Lambert  Who won the European cup when he played for Borussia Dortmund when they beat Juventus in the European Cup. Which he won. Jackie McNamara, Darren Jackson, Scott Gemmill and Billy McKinally are also coming along. Forwards  Ally isnae going. We have a wide range of attacking options though who are sure to score loads. Gordon Durie  Kevin Gallagher  Promising youngster Simon Donnelly  And Scott “potential” Booth who is poo poo.
