Thanks mate, much appreciated! Wrt that Tory MP basically evicting a whole council estate, shouldn't this make him basically unelectable? It seems like such a flagrantly evil and nasty thing to do from the point of view of just being an even slightly empathetic human that even Tory voters would see it as too much? It's literally making people homeless to increase his wealth a little bit. Is there something I'm missing? Or, as I suspect, will this just be buried so much by most of the press that it won't have chance to make a widespread dint in his popularity? It's just unbelievably nasty and selfish in such a blatant way, he's not even trying to cover it with 'I believe this is the right thing to do to help people blah blah blah' bullshit.

Well seeing as he's throwing those folk out they'll presumably end up voting in other constituencies, if at all. Plus we've seen in this thread already that some people quite like these sorts of evictions: it'll probably do wonders for local house prices.

AFAICT, it wasn't a council estate - it was owned by a private company ("First LBS Holdings Ltd.") before Benyon bought it. Not sure why the previous owners were charging such astonishingly low rents for the area.

If he'd tried this in Newbury there probably would've been some backlash when it came to the elections.

Remember this is the guy who in the course of handling his estate, decided to rip up protected woodland to allow gravel mining companies access to the gravel underneath it. And while he did this he was the minister for biodiversity and ecology.

Did you read my post? They have been given specialist below market rate subsidised living in a clear acknowledgement of the madness of the London market. To suddenly jack their rent up for literally no reason other than to make higher profit (there is NO other reason to raise the price) with an explicit acknowledgement most of them can't pay so will lose their previously specifically affordable homes is loving barbaric
