The "rich guy fights crime" superhero gimmick was already old when the character came out, the dark angsty stuff isn't too original either, and only 2 of the movies are halfway decent. And yet people eat up that grimdark poo poo.

His games are fun. Really though, it's a dude who makes himself awesome through sheer will and hard work. Trained both mind and body to perfection, which is inspiring for us couch potato goons. Fancy, shiny nerd tech is a plus too.

super heroes also distort evil - in that it is represented as singular villains when most evil is actually the result of systematic injustice. where does batman stand in the war against oppression, disease and imperial war? villains are shown as inevitable opponents who regularly crop up and must be then defeated, instead of the result of historical processes. how many people has batman sent to jail? what's the recidivism rate? gotham does not appear to have an abundance of social services or a particularly prosperous economy. what batman really represents is a warped, dystopian view of the world in the minds of petty bourgeois writers
