It's really dependent on the reviewer, and they can be pretty long-winded and up their own asses sometimes. The community is insufferable also, the comments are just a mess of inside jokes referencing each other. I'd rather they didn't even assign letter grades as a large portion of the comments is just complaining about whether that episode deserves that grade or not, and blah blah why is a more critically regarded show rated lower, etc. The less popular shows actually have decent discussion because they're not so high trafficked. The Six Feet Under reviews are really well done if you're into the whole thematic analysis thing.

I definitely would not add 24 or Alias to any list of examples of "good" time jumps. Didn't Alias do it to distance itself from the previous season, because the previous season was just that bad?

Time jumps in 24 serve mainly to pass enough time between seasons for the next friend or relative of the Palmer family to become President, because democracy seems to work wildly differently in the 24 world.

I've never actually seen Six Feet Under, I guess I should fix that some time.

And you never will, because dimension jump.

Alias's time jump actually happened after the best season of the show, and everything went downhill after the time jump.

I agree, but then the last two seasons happened. It was never good, but at least when it was bad it was funny. The last few years have just been bad bad and chores to watch, but as I said, might as well see it through to the end.

I thought I saw a thread pop up a few weeks ago when one of the trailers came out (at least I remember something with True Blood in the title being there), but I can't seem to find it.

Was Falling Skies still bad?

Eh, the last season was actually one of the more entertaining ones in recent memory but it kind of fell apart in the end. TB is terrible with wrapping up plot lines. I... honestly didn't realize it started up again.

What's the worst drama of the past 5 years?

I haven't seen Dexter but I'd have to put True Blood up there. The actual drama portion of the show is nothing more than a setpiece to get beautiful people to gently caress, kill, have gently caress dreams, and have backwards-head hate sex. It's gloriously campy and fun but pretty much fails in every way as a drama.

Ep 5-6 it becomes an actual show. If you don't like it by then you probably won't at all. It doesn't really reach its full potential until the entirety of season 2 though which is when it turns into a crazy paced, plot chewing roller coaster.

Guess I should probably watch Southland, too, before Gotham starts...

Season 1 and Season 4 are the only parts worth watching. The middle seasons got really bogged down with Marissa drama, Bait Shop band of the week, and new characters being introduced that never really fit into the group dynamic.

Mindy Project is actually not terrible so far this year. I didn't have to hear that godawful theme song, there was an entire scene about cunnilingus, and the 9PM EST Fox block has turned into a stealth Happy Endings reunion now that Damon Wayans Jr. and Adam Pally are in back-to-back shows. Little things.

Also, the previews for Red Band Society mixed with previews for Fault in Our Stars makes me think that every episode will end with me crying and hugging a blanket. I'll pass for now.

Please don't let the premiere be a fluke. I really want to like Mindy Project at this point. Kaling and Messina have a surprising amount of chemistry, and the side cast have settled into a nice comedic groove (props to Adam Pally who really gave a much needed breath of fresh air in Season 2) aside from Jeremy who I want to punch every time he shows up, and the episode acknowledged that by actually punching him.

I'd agree with you on that in season 1 at least but past that she's been consistently funny and the writers play to her comedic strengths. She does physical comedy really well and it's been great to see her character grow into the stable one in the group. Both! Ouch, maybe best not to run two episodes with the same plot line next to each other.

Eh, they were both just a macguffin to push character development in different directions so I'm ok with it.
