Shear Modulus posted:I'm not sure what you mean by "preferential treatment of underperforming students," and I think I'd disagree with you if I'm guessing your meaning correctly, but Powers leaving and a presumed successor being less competent at stopping ideological meddling in university administration is unequivocally terrible thing for Texas higher education. It's a sad state of affairs that the most important job of public university administration is raising money to cover state budgeting shortfalls and stopping political officials from undermining the academy for personal or political gain, but Powers is amazing at both of these jobs. Oh, so low numbers good. It's still damned moronic, but doesn't lead to the immediate and total collapse of faculty teaching. (also, why in god's name would you include grants in the equation, they're actively bringing that cash to the university and the all-consuming administrative maw eats some of that)

Dan Patrick, noted crazy person and Texas Lieutenant Governor frontrunner, after repeatedly accusing his opponent of wanting to turn Texas into California, accidentally proposed that tax increases be subject to public referendum.

I am sort of surprised at the apparent goon support for "top state officials do not have to reside in the town where the organizations they command are". That was the one state prop I thought might actually go down in flames that I wanted to.

It matters less than the hunting amendment, so that's hilarious, but at the same time it really does gum up the works sometimes when top officials are unavailable. None of the props this year were terribly important in and of themselves, although 1 and 7 could have significant revenue related side effects.

It won't take your head off if it gets playful, and its odds of severing an artery if it kneads its paws on your leg are probably only about 5%.
