Either it's a disease that needs curing or it's not. Maybe this is an inherent problem with it being a "spectrum" of disorders? I think that's part of it, but someone's individual perception of themselves is definitely a factor. I have Asperger's and I'm not sure if I'd get a cure or not, but take something like near-sightedness. I need glasses and personally would never want lasik, because to me the glasses have become an integral part of how I see myself, but there are still many people less near-sighted than me who get lasik.
