So, while Semin has been an incredible disappointment, Strome balances that out. I thought Huberdeau would break out from his sophomore funk, but I am getting less hopeful by the game. Either way, the team looks a lot better than it did last month. The team scored 32 goals and 65 assists this month, compared to 28 goals and 35 assists last month.

e: Looking back at my posts, apparently I was torn between taking Plekanec and Semin. I made the wrong choice.

Yeah well Hutchinson is the best goalie in the league and he's making 575k so suck it.

No comments on my center depth tho.

It's ridiculous how much better my first team is (127G 194A) than my second (87G 168A), other than goaltending-wise thanks to Michael Hutchinson's awesomeness.

Also I remember trying to decide between Dillon and Scandella and picking Dillon, which upset talent deficit. Then a round later:

the talent deficit posted:

can i pick now? i wanted a vet dman who can pk but i guess i'm stuck with marco scandella

Now Scandella somehow has 9G and 6A in 31 GP. He had scored 7G and 25A in 165GP coming into this season. What the gently caress?

Still not in the playoffs, but we've actually scored 123 goals which would be good for 3rd best in the NHL. My D have scored 27g and put up 84pts which seems pretty drat good to me. Man we take a lot of penalties though (465 pims - would be 26th worst in the league).

honestly 107 goals isn't bad at all considering I'm getting nothing from my 2C role (this team obviously would have kept Reinhart up). Also suffering production wise from Evander Kane's injury/play and Beaulieu/Murphy not playing as much as I thought they would (although they both are doing well in the AHL, and when up in the NHL). The prospects are tracking about where they should. Lots of potential top 6/top 4 guys and Subban is going to be a starter. Barkov has been disappointing, but he's been playing better lately and I still don't really have any doubts that he'll be a top line NHLer if he stays healthy.

The goaltending is what gives this team a reasonable chance at the playoff. This would pretty easily be the best combo in the league. Although it remains to be seen what would the defense would do with more minutes.

119g/224a/343 points, FF% of 50.1 with ice time divided equally, would be much better than that if I did it accurately by line

I have a competent goalie, 3/5 of the best players in the NHL right now in Voracek/Malkin/Giordano, some good secondary scoring, and Stralman. Would that be enough to overcome the failures of Holden, Diaz, and non-existen Pysyk? I think so. I don't think there's a team out there better than mine

You can't just hide Lecavalier and Clarkson on two different lines like that.

Yea you might as well put them both on the same line so only one line is garbage

The nice part about picking players from teams you don't like is that if they fail, you can still be happy. Suck it, Robin Lehner. And uhhhh goddamn Wild goaltending, I don't actually hate them.

My team could really use McEichel.

My team hit a wall. It was inevitable due to the nature of my team, being as it is painfully top heavy, but jeez, I didn't expect to hit it this hard. Sask'chewan is like a lovely version of Russia. I knew heading in that pretty much if any one of my top players went down I was gonna see a dramatic drop in production as there just isn't enough NHL depth for me to have chosen from. So then I lost Schwartz (7 games missed), Kunitz (8), Hartnell (8), and the surprising, still-injured, Comeau (10), all of them going down at pretty much the same time in December. Schwartz is freaking awesome, though, as expected.

Oh, and also I have a combined 10 players (11 with the deceased Ryan Murray) on my current active roster that, total, have scored 11 goals. Put another way, my top 10/19 scoring skaters have a total of 94 goals. My bottom 9/19 scoring skaters have 3 goals. Someone like a Linden Vey or something would have helped to bridge this gap.

And Marleau has also gone cold at the moment, though I'm fairly confident he will pick it back up. This team is at best average on offence if I continue to have even one top 6 player out of the lineup.

Meanwhile, my defence right now consists of five bottom-pairing "at least he works hard"s and pylons, along with the stuffed and mounted-in-display corpse of Ryan Murray, but least Pittsburgh called up Derrick Pouliot - who thinktank's Pr0nman article called the ...9th? best prospect in the game. 7 games in and he has as many goals as any other of my D.

And Holtby has come on really strong after a slow start. Even Ham Ward is a League Average Goaltender right now. So goaltending is plenty strong. Also they have a combined 33 wins, so obviously my team is in the end absolutely crushing it here in our parallel hockey universe and a prohibitive favourite to win the cup.

And, as always, the true :sask: team, had only the hockey gods only smiled so, with rightful sons Getzlaf and Eberle becomes all of a sudden a really strong forward group, even if Jordan continues to sleep in the bed of poo poo he deserves up in Oil Country.

Newsflash: My team still sucks. Jamwad chose Rask in the first round and then followed it up with a lot of Montreal players who are all OK but none great. Then he gave up the team after drafting Desharnais (bleh) and I followed up by making a bunch of questionable picks - worst of all Justin Peters who is just really bad. My team has a grand total of 108 goals which isn't very good. Sorry for the bad formatting - I don't know how to format properly.

I am somewhat happy with my team, even if my goalie's surprisingly stink. The only issue I see is that in this fantasy world we have created, one of Wilson, Strome, or Huberdeau, would have to take a few extra minutes, on average, a game. Nugent-Hopkins would be taking fewer. He's awesome, and I wish he wasn't stuck in Edmonton.

Team sucks so bad I can't even pretend it doesn't anymore lol. At least Dumba and Pouliot look solid. Everyone else but those two and Comeau top out at "meeting expectations" (Schwartz), then sliding down all the way to "disappointment" (Kunitz)

As always, if Ryan Murray didn't have only one leg I might have the makings of a 15th-20th ranked defence. And I mean, my numbers are downwardly skewed because I just don't have as many players as y'all in the NHL accruing numbers, but I can only blame my own geographical failings for that.

No your defense is complete poo poo and would only be 15-20 if Murray became a hybrid of Orr and Pronger overnight.

Team 1 continues to score shitloads of goals as the goalies continue to suck worse and worse. Averaging 3.25 goals/game and still in the plus despite carrying two Edmonton Oilers. And Verviticus thought this defense would suck: Hedman-Hamilton, Vlasic-Klein/Fayne and Gormley/Marincin-Fayne/Klein are doing just fine. It wouldn't hurt if Dmitri Orlov could come back from the dead though.

Team 2 continues to suck rear end. Tarasenko is great, but the forwards can't score goals and aren't scoring assists anywhere near the rate of team 1, although I guess they have significantly less TOI accrued. Pietrangelo and McDonagh have not been as great as usual, Dillon is struggling and Severson got injured. Wennberg and Draisaitl got eaten alive and Kuznetsov isn't getting enough minutes to boost the scoring. The bright spot of Michael Hutchinson has gone from 'Vezina candidate' to 'slightly above average' but is still better than Ondrej Pavelec. Lehner started sucking and got hurt and may have lost his job to a random free agent signing who is thankfully ruining Ottawa's tank.

I have gotten a bit lucky. Schroeder had a pretty good February, with 7 points in 13 games. Not great, but with him also doing well in the AHL, it may mean that he's become someone to watch again. The main issue with my team is that I have a clump of young forwards (Strome, Wilson, Nugent-Hopkins, and Huberdeau), who would all be fighting for time, and are all close together in their stat lines. Huberdeau has been playing better than most people realize (36 points in his last 51), RNH would be much better if he was out of Edmonton (he looks like a great player, but he gets too much responsibility at such a young again), Strome is doing great but only getting ~15 minutes a game, and Wilson was considered close to being a bust until this year.

My other issue (other than goaltenders), is defense. Weber-Vlasic are the perfect first pairing, but after that, it gets reallllllly dicey. Clitsome has been injured for most of the season (and when he hasn't been, he seems to be forgotten in Winnipeg), Girardi is Girardi, Rundblad is a nice surprise as a 5/6 guy, and that's about it. I really only have four guys, one of which I'd be giving more minutes than I am comfortable with. I'd be rotating some awful combination of Blum/Erixon/Lashoff, and hoping that Weber/Vlasic could play 40 minutes a game.

No your defense is complete poo poo and would only be 15-20 if Murray became a hybrid of Orr and Pronger overnight.

Yea well at least I don't try and steal Jaden Schwartz from other people's teams. :colbert: Also, usage on the Saskatoon Blues would be giving Dumba and Pouliot closer to 20 mins a night. With a healthy Murray that would give me 3 top-4 defencemen! An astonishing feat.

I think the only thing I got right this year was Tavares vs. Crosby for 1st overall.

I'm surprised you aren't smugging it up more for the flack you took on that. I know I would be.

Eh, I'd still rather have Sid. In this, Crosby's worst year in a while, he's still 4th in pts and has a better ppg than Tavares.

Analysis:

My goaltending is strong, and I think it would be a good tandem going down the stretch.
My defensemen leave something to be desired, but most of them play for lovely teams. I don't know what the fancy stats would look like for them, but I'll look at that at season's end.

180 goals isn't great, and the +/- sucks, but I'm getting great seasons from Brassard, Tavares, Filppula, and JvR. Atkinson is underwhelming, and my 4th line blows. Namestikov might be a stud, though, and Puempel has 1G in 7 games.

E: I looked up last year's team, and welp:
Setoguchi - Crosby - Eberle
Belesky - Brassard - Atkinson
Jenner - Cogliano - Frattin
Caron - Fraser - Boll
x Sobotka, Caron

Bufyglien-Maatta
Johnson-McQuaid
Schenn-Niskanen
x Erixon

Elliott
Grubauer
