So how is melee damage calculated? I want to make a tanky melee brawler dread but I remember it being super anemic when perks first came out.

e; also how viable is levelling via pvp?

The escort missions in DT are particularly funny because escorts cannot jump, and do not have jumpjets, so when you have to escort someone and there is no clear path, they will either get stuck and just sit there, or, if you are lucky, will walk right through lava, burn up and die.

I've also had the luck of someone thumpering near the only entrance to dredge, making it virtually impossible for the NPC to get through. They said they were looking at increasing the health of the NPC escorts as well as the defense missions to make it more doable. As it is, nearly every defense mission and most escort missions are impossible as a Raptor.

Speaking of which, anyone have a preferred perk/equipment loadout for the raptor? I can't seem to find anything super interesting since I don't have any master level perks

The Recharging Sonic Detonator is pretty minor, but also relatively cheap, so grab one if you want. You'll usually only encounter one resource deposit at a time, so it's one less thing to worry about crafting.

Detonators are completely useless now as you can destroy deposits by hitting them with a scan hammer.

I was speaking specifically about the chosen thumper spawning up in DT. There were probably two full platoons of people running it at all levels, so I am sure they were getting something from it. I loaded up my level 2 and got like 4k experience or something low, then switched to my 31 bastion and got 49kish (founder\vip)? I do not math so maybe I was off; although the exp was not the same, it appeared to be proportionally equal.

And as a side note. Doing donuts in the mpv on top of chosen and bug spawns is one of the most fun times I've had in a long time. Some of the bigger spawns do not get run over, they get pushed, so you hit them at full speed and ram into a wall and watch them go splat.

I hope they do something like GW2 where you just get a percentage of your level if you're downlevelled. That way you can play your favorite frames with friends and not have to feel like you're not progressing.

Also, how does vehicle damage work in this game? Running over aranhas seems to do like 50 damage to them.

Has someone bothered to make a map of ARES board event spawn locations? With a group of 3-4 people you could probably lock down every stage of a mission and complete them really quickly.

Do you think you could do an effortpost with your thoughts on which perks are good and which are not so good for each frame? I'd love to know what perks I should be taking for my nighthawk.

The general rule I use for perks is to build for survivability first then damage. For recons this means Regenerative Plating and for Dreadnaughts this means Resilient Plating. Assaults get nanite absorption (which makes healing packs super good).

For damage I usually go for SIN blades ASAP because they are stupidly good right now, but otherwise just get abilities that reinforce the good points of your primaries: ex. Nighthawks should build for alpha damage, which means getting as many first-shot bonuses as possible, such as Ambush, Head Hunter and Ballistics Expert. Melee raptors should get knockout to boost their melee, and dragonfly can be built to boost either healing or damage with Rally.

If I still have perk points left over I'll go for the -20% damage to specific types perks. If I remember correctly, bullet and energy are by far the most common.

I've never tried but are jobs shareable by squad mates? Also are all the waypoints and what have you for a job static, or if two people were fortunate enough to have the same job could they get sent to different locations? I like the job board better than ares, but I don't like running solo.

1. Yes, but it's a little buggy if you quit a mission early or invite someone while on a mission.
2. The only time the game shares locations is if two people are on the same part of the same quest.

Has anyone reached 24 and not done the LGV quest in Sertao? I'd like to try seeing if an underlevelled frame can get credit for that quest, so that someone can get blueprints early.

Does this ever turn into anything other than doing 1 randomly generated mission at a time? And then running back to the job board, and then running back to the next objective (repeat 1-3x) and then running back to the NPC and the job board again? Is this really what their new game for 2014 is? Does it somehow get better after level 10? This may be the worst opening for an MMO I've ever seen, like it doesn't want you to play it.

Additionally, apparently sometime in the last 3 years I got a cash shop motorcycle so I was able to race my friend's VIP booster glider. The motorcycle is quite significantly faster, probably about twice as fast. If you have any sort of choice in the matter you should probably go for the bike over the glidepad, regardless of how cool gliding is.

There's thumping and open-world AREs missions, as well as random events that pop up like the storm kestrel nests (the screeching noise you hear sometimes), boss monsters, wounded bandits, and tornados. I like to roam Sertao doing random AREs missions that pop up, since the board missions are almost exclusively go here/kill thing/come back deals.

Overall, I'd say that this patch was really bad for newbies, because it exacerbates the problem of having long transport times without a bike.

Yeah, Phobos stated this was because they wanted you to use weapons more... which would be nice if there were more weapon types to choose from. Games like WoW can get away with weapon-types not being that important because its all ability based.

This game is like the manchild of MMOs: it's been sitting in the basement for waaay too long, and when it finally leaves it's nowhere near as mature as it should be.

One guy was bitching because he said there wasn't enough variety of mobs in the game. He said there wasn't enough to do. He bitched about how long it took to level. He bitched so long and hard and would frequently say something stupid like how Borderlands 2 was better or how Skyrim was better. I'm sure he would have gone through a list of single player games and wound up saying Risk was better sooner or later but he let it slip that he was only level 3 and if the game didn't get better, he was gone.

1. Risk is a multi-player game, and is tons of fun with the right people.

2. I know this may come as a shock to you, but just because he hasn't played the game as much as you doesn't make his opinion less valid.

quote:

I'm fairly sure the reason he wasn't leveling fast enough was because he never stopped typing stupid poo poo in zone chat long enough to shoot anything.

It's true, strawmen are pretty bad at shooting.

Yeah, this game is interesting, but the only reason it's interesting for me is because I don't have to deal with half the bullshit that new players have to deal with. Quests take substantially shorter to do when you have the best LGV, a hoverpad and a glider. But without those, I would have quit after a few hours.

I'm not arguing the relative worth of each opinion; I'm saying that his opinion is equally as valid as yours. You're both playing the same game, but he's experiencing it from a radically different perspective. And most people in this thread, myself included, seem to agree that the new player's perspective is exceptionally lovely.

A few random questions:

1.) Am I wasting crystite by researching? I've seen complaints about the system but no real explanation as to why it's a waste of time. I've only done a few things with it - thumpers, mostly - but still.

2.) When quest medals go bronze on the job board, that means it's safe to move onto the next hub right?

3.) Finally...I've earned a couple purple cosmetic things from those slot machines, but I've got no clue how to apply them. Using the NewYou station just prompts the game to start asking me about buying RedBeans.

Ah well, I'll just faff around with key configs then and see what I can come up with. Game is forgiving enough to use the controller in combat which I like.

1. You can pretty easily get gear for/around your level by using the voucher vendors near each job board. In addition, enemies drop modules for their level, so it's not hard to get items without crafting.

2.That means you've done them. The gold ones should lead you to the next job board, but ultimately you can move on to a new board as long as it's appropriate for your level.

3.They're in the calldowns menu, under 'unlock'. You need to use them to get the cosmetic item.

Jesus, the low 30s are such a drag. the western side of sertao is a horrible rocky nightmare with the bases spread out thin. Even if you want to do any of the random spawn missions you need to drive around soooo much.

On the plus sude, it's one of the prettiest areas in the game so far. Speaking of which, why doesn't FF have XP rewards for climbing mountains and poo poo? Guild Wars 2 had vistas, which gave you a little flycam runthrough of areas of interest. Firefall could use the same thing, and it'd be something to do other than AREs missions and instances.
