On the flip side Dungeon Siege 3 is the only Obsidian game I haven't played because the previous Steam thread said not to bother with it.

I think I might be the only one who likes DS3. I mean yes it's not really playing to obsidian's strengths and is certainly their weakest game. But man it might be the only arpg that's ever held my interest. I've tried torchlight, marvel heroes, path of exile and they've all bored the crap out of me. Maybe I just don't like all that clicking.

My fiancee and I tried to love Dungeon Siege 3 but just couldn't do it. Love the mechanics and gameplay, but how the hell did an Obsidian game end up with characters and writing THAT BAD? It is the most generic of fantasy settings with a few gears tossed in because Steampunk. The gameplay, while really competent, just couldn't get me past my own loathing for my characters, much less the boring crap they were killing.

We never did get our revenge on Jeyne Kassinder. I have no idea how, but they managed to make Torchlight II's world feel deep and interesting by comparison. WTF, Obsidian.

Yeah I kind of ignored the story and just focused on the pretty particle effects.

Nope. None of them. Closest we've got is some guy figuring out how to copy the .ini from the 360 version over to the PC, but then you're not able to use powers or menus. Which, again, means that all Bioware had to do was copy over the .ini and maybe port the menus over, but like you said, they just didn't want to do that.

Last pc bioware game to have native controller support was Jade Empire, if I recall. Even then, it was janky as hell with mouse and keyboard being way better.

Why must you remind me of the worst thing I've watched in the last few years? :negative: But that's exactly how it is. I even knew beforehand it's going to be terrible but I felt like I wanted to watch it all just so I can reprimand everyone extremely harshly not to even start or end with the fourth or fifth season.

But Dexter¨s last few seasons are truly terrible unlike a certain third part of a trilogy.

Really I think Dexter is worse than any of the Mass Effects, writing wise. Dragon Age 2 is pretty borderline though.

That show is just dire.

Not a huge fan of that, gotta be honest. The D-pad is essential to playing a lot of games (like platformers), and having an analog stick as a replacement is kinda counter-intuitive.

Can't you use the big touch pads as a D-pad? I though the touchpads were supposed to be a happy medium between sticks and d-pads.

It actually somewhat is.

Full Controller Support means the game can be launched, configured, and played using only a controller.
Partial Controller Support means that some part of the game requires a keyboard or mouse.

Generally when a game has both it means that it has native support for an Xbox controller out of the box (Full) but other controllers require in-game configuration (therefore Partial).

Dark Souls has partial controller support and I'm pretty sure the only thing you use the keyboard for is putting your name in.

edit: if you have a controller plugged in anyway.

I know the initial port years ago was loving awful, but how does the new one fare? I hear it had a few issues to begin with... are those still present or what?

The 60fps mode can be a little wonky purely because the game was not designed around moving that fast. But otherwise, it is excellent. You get an achievement for securing the ballistics. :haw:

So how is Dead Rising 3? Sorta tempted to grab it but not sure if I'll like it. Is it goofy as poo poo like DR2 was? That's what I loved about the second game, because it took place the most colourful Vegas-esque hotel/casino/mall location and everything got goofy. DR3 looks kinda grimdark despite the fact you still make combo weapons and smash through zombies though.

It's just as goofy as the last game.

In DMC3 he's basically the fifth Ninja Turtle, complete with life-defining love of pizza. And there's a bit where you fight a topless vampire lady who, when defeated, turns into a magical guitar that shoots electric bats.

Dante used to be a cartoon character, and a fun one at that. I'd never have described him as edgy though. Not in the slightest.

So he's edgy in the same way sonic is edgy, essentially.

Sonic Adventure is internally fixed at 640x480 and has no widescreen support. It defaults to 1280x720 windowed, in which the game is letterboxed to 800x600 with an ugly purple background filling the rest of the area. There's no controller icons so you have to guess what buttons do what. The config app has Open Your Heart blaring in the background like some lovely keygen or something. Oh and in the Steam version, the config app doesn't even work. There's a fix... that involves cracking open the registry. Combine all this with audio bugs like random blaring noises in the second part of Twinkle Park and general wonkiness carrying over from older versions but made worse by the sheer amount of porting the game has been through.

Decent Port indeed. If you want Sonic Adventure on your PC, you're probably better off trying to play the Gamecube version in Dolphin. Sonic Adventure 2 (not on sale) is a good port though.

It looks like they fixed the config app in this update though.
