So - Mafia II. Not a fun driving simulator (real wheel drive cars on icy roads in a big city, who thought this was a good idea), chapters seem very short, I'm not sure if there is any open world stuff (I guess stealing cars?), and I feel bad because I was playing a thug before who beat up people for lunch money who just escalated to cop killer. Also gently caress you to the mandatory stealth mission.

Does the ending suck as bad as people say?

I wonder if this is the fastest a Square Enix game has been reduced so dramatically (M:SS was released in June!!!), and also why anyone buys a Square Enix game at launch is beyond me. $15 for Murdered Soul Suspect seems like the price it should have been at launch in the first place. But that sucks for anyone who paid $50 6-7 weeks ago.

The developer (Airtight) is out of business; I'm not sure how royalties work now, but they may be trying to sell it as cheap as possible for that very reason (patches, what patches.)

Happened earlier this month. I wouldn't blame just the Ouya exclusive "Soul Fjord" (though it didn't help), rumors are that they had layoffs earlier this year, and Murdered was their last hope for staying afloat. The Metacritic score was 60 so welp.

I just finished Resonance and it was pretty good, with some neat mechanics like being able to play as different characters and use that to solve puzzles in different ways, though (ending spoiler) the whole truther thing was kind of out there even if the plot tied to one of the prologue missions that you forgot about by that point. Also Rucks as a detective, especially with his opening monologue :allears:

"Now I know that a fair few PC gamers are asking what the difference between the Definitive Edition and the original game with an HD textures pack is - here's your answer: we've redone a lot more than just the textures. We've also reworked character faces, added particle and ambient effects such as volumetric fog. Furthermore, the draw distances have been substantially improved and the gameplay has seen a lot of tweaking. Things that might have been too easy or difficult have been rejigged. Additional breakable enviroment objects have also been introduced so you can have more fun tossing enemy thugs around. On top of all these technical improvements, you've also got the added bonus of almost all previously released DLC packs - that includes outfits, cars and extra story-extending content that amounts to over three hours of additional story gameplay."

From watching the YouTube ad, it includes all the story DLC (so the '70s kung fu one, but also Nightmare in North Point with jiangshi/hopping zombie vampires, and Year of the Snake which has lots of cop fun.) The cop one has a funny side mission with pork bun guy.

KOTOR 2 wasn't all that good - it's got two opening dungeons to get through to start exploring, many of the characters don't have the interesting dialogue from the LP unless you suck up to them, some of the cut content is just awful (the HK factory mission takes forever and is poorly placed right when you're going to go after the main antagonist) - don't get me wrong, there's some good stuff with the unreliable squadmate in Kreia but there's also a lot of not good stuff.

How's Contrast? The description makes it sound a bit unusual and interesting, but the reviews of the console versions make it sound as though it's not actually fun to play.

That's all accurate. Unusual, interesting, and sometimes not all that fun to play. Mostly the cons are:
- platforming isn't as well optimized as it could be. Easy to die though the game handles this well (usually.)
- main character acts like she doesn't weigh anything.
- save states only at the beginning of longer puzzle segments.
- last act is clearly rushed and most of the explanation of "why things are the way they are" relies on looking at the collectibles

Pros are:
- you get to move shadows around to jump on, and occasionally see projected shadows of people and move on those
- a very fun bit at the circus (I think the puppet play was the best part even if it borrowed a bit too much from Limbo)
- scratches that itch if you like platformers with a twist (Portal and such), even if it never quite rises to the quality of those
- very neat looking environment, though it is completely desolate of people except for your girl companion and shadows

It's also about ~3 hours long if that matters.

Same if you shoot off their legs, they crawl to you. Also, later on you'll meet the ninjas. These guys are good, and ridiculously fun to fight.

The boss fights are also really well done - especially the Spider which reacts as you shoot off its legs, eventually trying to balancing itself on whatever is left.
