is there an actualy non-terrible discrete sound card for computers with non-terrible drivers? i got a cheap xonar dg? dx? because the onboard card made a buzzing sound in my headphones but the xonar broke rocksmith 2014 and it doesn't consistently switch between rear panel speakers and front panel headphones when i plug the headphones in

also USB DACs are a fine choice

cool, i thought dacs were a lot more expensive. i'll try that with the spdif out on the onboard card

I bought a fractal core 1000 per factory factory's recommendation. I just tucked a hard drive in the lower 5.25" bay without properly mounting it. There was some kind of piece of metal that looks like part of a mount, but I can't figure out how it works. Anyone know?

User manual was worthless. It just had the specs, no diagrams.

Usually those are pretty easy to figure out, just find the set of holes that lines up with the threaded holse on the hard drive case. it kinda looks like youre suppoosed to mount the hard drives vertically in that case, where the rubber gaskets are on the removable vertical piece of metal that attaches to the 5.25" drive cage

I think everything's pretty set because display port has clips on the full size connectors but yeah I should double check. but the tower is on concrete floor and I'm not actually brushing up against it so seems unlikely

hi thread my parents have been using a desktop pc for Windows media center for years and the main thing they do with it is dvr over the air tv. this has worked nicely and for free but windows 7 support is ending. what is a good replacement? do they finally have to bite the bullet and subscribe to TiVo or are there free options? it’s really just for ota they don’t care that much about cable. it’s also used for playing ripped cds so local audio storage is also desirable

Jenny Agutter
Mar 18, 2009

that looks like you still need to pay for the programming guide and, sorry to say, it's ugly as sin compared to Windows media center. looks like something that allows a lifetime subscription purchase is my best option, does anyone have opinions on OTA DVRs? I'm shocked that the cheapest TiVo is $250 +$250 for a lifetime subscription and they probably won't be around in a few years

My parents have like 8 dog cams (all diff brands of course!) and the router provided by the ISP doesn't differentiate where bandwidth is coming from

What's the semi-cheapest type tomato type router I can setup in front of the router to figure out what IOT is compromised (it's sending like at least 100gb/day, I remember using tomato a while ago for a dif purpose; but that was years ago -- is there some raspberry pi I can use or what not to see what's causing all the bandwidth usage? They started getting calls from the ISP so they called me to come fix it.
)
I've tried some software ones (Capsa?) which didn't really do much. Im sure theres a better method these days than installing Tomato on a WRT-54g or whatever it was back in the day.

The cam's are all in high places and stuff so unplugging them one by one trying to figure it out seems like more effort than throwing in a tomato style router in front of the ISP router (plus it'll let me see wtf is going on with alot of connection drops they complain about)

for example in 2hours, with literally nothing going on (2am):

WAN Receiving 42.04G Bytes
WAN Sending 2.53G Bytes
Private LAN IP Address 192.168.1.1/24
LAN Receiving 2.56G Bytes
LAN Sending 41.40G Bytes

I've changed passwords/ssid/etc but still happening so ya that isn't really an option here

Thanks!

About an hour into building the cluster I noticed that one of the three was freezing every 15-20 minutes. After replicating the behavior by rotating mSD (the same unit froze no matter which mSD card and the cards did not cause freezes on the other two Pis) I suspect this one might have gotten fried when BVMTH discovered the circuit breakers for our apartment last week (which is consistent with the periodic drops in DNS service which originally caused the maintenance).

I'm back to two independent PisHole until I figure out if it's even worth doing a two-node K3/K8 cluster.
