slack works because:
- normal people can use it
- offline messages
- its external
- has a good mobile client

the only "downside" is the free plan having a limit of messages and attachments but I think short term memory only is a good side because otherwise it becomes critical storage instead of a collaboration tool

what location and ISP does http://whatismyip.com show
does the IP address match the public IP on your router

if the isp and the IP and the location match and it says you're in Canada then you're probably hosed and you gotta submit a fix at https://support.maxmind.com/geoip-data-correction-request and https://support.google.com/websearch/contact/ip and who the gently caress knows who else
