This was at Borgeau Lake in Banff National Park. You can easily summit the mountain behind me without any technical gear, but we didn't feel like it that day because we were hung over and it was 5200 feet vertical elevation. We just did the 2600' hike to the lake.

Not the prettiest lake in the area, but it was a cool place to be by ourselves. I also spelled it wrong, it's Bourgeau.

I'd post them, but while my daughter is a cutie, my wife may not want me posting her photo online so I'll abstain.

Yeah, it is. I could post hundreds of photos from the place that I've taken, there's hardly anything boring.

When there's someone who doesn't want a photo posted of them, I photoshop a smilie or something onto their face. Just a suggestion.

My favourite place in the world: Mt. Robson. Probably going back this summer!

If you like hiking and backpacking, GO THERE.

Also Mt. Assiniboine is very good.

Very unconventional since I have a 40L and usually split gear with the husband. Here I have our ridgerests strapped to the sides of my pack while dealing with a flooded trail. He was carrying the tent. Also strapped to the outside is a camera tripod.

I look like an oddball on the trail but that's perfectly fine, I'm happy and having a lot of fun and that's the entire point.

Har har har. Seriously though, I tell my wife and friends that I really want to visit the Great Slave Lake and Great Bear Lake up in Canada and they look at me like I"m crazy. But god drat if these pictures don't drive home how much I really do want to go up there. Glacier was beautiful but seems bush league compared to that awesome stuff. If I get some free time maybe I"ll drudge up some photos on top of the mountains in Idaho and Montana to contribute.

That pack of yours though, thats hardcore for you two.

They are nuts. I want to go really badly too. The geology nerd in me wants to go visit the 3 billion year old Canadian Shield rock.

Yes, and yes! But it feels amazing on a hot day. I tend to dunk my hair in it to keep cool too. Works wonders. Plus it 's so refreshing and crisp to drink.

As someone who has lived "in the city" their whole life, its crazy to me that standing water just chillin out is SAFE TO DRINK. (It is safe, right?)

I treat it all, except for a couple rare occasions where I've literally drank from a glacier, and it wasn't standing, flowing over ice and bedrock. It's like eating snow. There's no life up there that can transmit parasites. But I have severely lectured people drinking from streams below tree line, they're just asking to be sick. We have a lot of megafauna here that like to poo poo in or near rivers and lake shores. Especially horses. A number of popular trails are open to horse outfitters to take clients on day trips.

Interesting, I've never heard any concern over mineral content out here. Just that if you're below tree-line, assume it's full of poo poo and disease.

I've been asked do you ever see the Northern Lights up there and is there plenty to do around the area?
We are thinking of having a week there then getting on a train to Seattle for a grunge pilgrimage, does that sound possible?

Oh yeah, if you like hiking there are dozens upon dozens of trails, from simple flat meanders to actual summits that you only need to walk up. Check Mt. Fairview (not Fairview lookout) one of the easiest mountains to summit with one of the best views you could ask for. Lots of nice restaurants around too. I like the Plain of 6 Glaciers trail, which goes from Louise to an alpine tea house with awesome glacier views, and the Lake Agnes teahouse which is surrounded buy vertical cliffs.

A train is theoretically possible, if you have the cash. There's a Rocky Mountain Rail train that runs through Lake Louise to Vancouver, but last time I checked the trip from Calgary to Vancouver was like $1500 per person. You could bus it, though.
